Welcome to Cedar House! A Fully Independent, Equipped, and Sparkling Clean Garden Level Apartment in Laramie's Historic West Side District! The Cedar House is a bright, cheery, and clean garden level apartment with an independent entrance, private off-street parking, 3-bedroom, 1 bath, full kitchen, WIFI internet, large screen smart TV, Asian style dining space, washer/dryer, entertainment room, 1 queen size bed (bedroom 1), 2 single size beds (bedroom 2) and one XL twin bed (bedroom 3). The apartment is part of a 1918 home in Laramie’s historic West Side District. It is located just 2 blocks from the Union Pacific Railroad footbridge that connects the west side to Laramie’s vibrant downtown. The home is also just seconds from connecting onto Snowy Range Road, which will take you straight to the Highway 130 for easy access to The Snowy Range mountains! The Green Belt, a paved walking path that follows the Little Laramie River is just three blocks south of your stay. Disclosure: The Asian style dining space has a lower ceiling height than the rest of the rental (see pictures). This makes the space unique, comfortable, and personable but because the ceiling is lower, taller people need to be cautious not to hit their heads. Cedar House is located directly below our living space, you may hear soft footsteps, but the noise level is very minimal and should not disrupt your stay. We have a dog (golden retriever/black lab) named Maggie May who lives on our property and you may see in the yard. Guests must be comfortable and kind to animals in order to stay at the Cedar House. Guests describe The Cedar House as sparkling clean, comfortable, well decorated and very inviting. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions before booking your reservation. This is a private apartment and guests will have access to the entire downstairs rental. My son and I live upstairs, but there is no sharing of living areas, other than the backyard, where Maggie May, our dog will often be lounging. I am available to all my guests for any questions or concerns they may have during their stay, but will also completely respect your privacy. If you'd like to meet in person, I am happy to do so and would be pleased to welcome you that way, just let me know! The West Side neighborhood feels both rural and urban. Deciduous trees are planted in most yards, adding to the rural character of the district. The presence of the Laramie River and Optimist Park (just a block away from your stay or one minute walk- with a dog park and child play area) and access to the Laramie River Greenbelt (3 blocks south of your stay or 2 minute walk) contribute to the rural, natural feel. The West Side neighborhood represents the development of Laramie as a railroad town. Starting in 1868 with the arrival of the railroad, the West Side became an important housing district for the town. The West Side neighborhood originally housed workers employed by the Union Pacific Railroad and industrial plants on the west side of Laramie. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the neighborhood was populated primarily by British, Swedish and German people. They were later joined by Hispanic people, who moved here from Colorado and New Mexico starting in the 1910s. It has remained a mostly working-class neighborhood throughout its history. When Cedar House was remodeled in 2014, German and Swedish newspapers dating back to 1915 were found, perfectly restored in the attic. The Cedar House has a lot of history, and welcomes you as part of it’s story! If you're in the mood for Mexican food, Bernie's Mexican Restaurant is located on Cedar Street. It is an 11 minute walk for the Cedar House. There are many restaurant and entertainment options just on the other side of the UPRR footbridge. The bridge is 2 blocks from Cedar House and downtown is about 4 blocks. When walking over the bridge, start to explore the amazing murals that Laramie has to offer- you'll notice the "Gil Street" fish mural as soon as you get to the other side of the bridge! The fish with a woman on the fin and hand prints was done by yours truly! (It's located in a little nook off of the main Gill Street Mural). There are wonderful little shops to explore in our downtown area. Some of my favorites are: Night Heron Coffee, Poppy's, The Chocolate Cellar, Works of Wyoming Art Studio, The Big Dipper, and The Sugar Mouse Cupcake House, to name a few! Happy Exploring! The West Side has been likened to an island, since there are only three access points, all of which necessitate crossing a bridge. One can pass around or over the neighborhood without having to go through it, which creates a very quiet and comfortable stay for guests. If you are planning on visiting Laramie for University of Wyoming game days, at the bottom of the Union Pacific footbridge is a public transportation stop that will take you directly to the game. I will have information readily available for guests if desired, just let me know what you'd like to have more information about! Many restaurant owners, including Sweet Melissa’s, Anong's, and Night Heron, all live on the same street you will be staying on! This is a garden level apartment with stairs that lead to the rental, please make sure you're comfortable with one flight of stairs and physically able.
