Description
The Happy Dolphin is a Grade 2 Georgian Regency house, with uninterrupted panoramic views across two huge sandy beaches - Margate Bay and Westbrook Bay, with its meadow walks above. The promenade, endless golden sands, Sea Scrub Sauna, row of funky beach bars, and the Shakespeare Pub are all 2 minutes’ walk away. The promenade leads you around to the Turner Contemporary, the Harbour Arm and Old Town, all a 10 minutes walk, with beach, book and vintage shops and bars and restaurants en route. The space The Happy Dolphin is on a charming no-through road for just fourteen Georgian houses, and next to a large green, with the coastal road on the other side of the green, and sandy beaches and the sea beyond there, less than two minutes walk away from the house. You'll have the whole of the house from the ground floor upwards, with your own front door and small private South West facing walled garden, which is a real sun trap. The basement level is just used for storage. Where the original plaster or wallpaper has a beautiful patina, we have left it exposed. Everywhere else is decorated in new lime plaster and clay paint for a rustic shabby chic calmness, with Venetian plaster in the shower cubicles, and the house is insulated with sheep's wool and wood-wool boards. All these natural materials makes for a very healthy atmosphere in the house. We want the Happy Dolphin to have a worn, relaxed feel. The ground floor kitchen has a bay window overlooking the garden, a central breakfast bar, two eye-height ovens, an integrated microwave, a very large gas stove, with a wok ring, a washer tumble dryer combo, dishwasher and three fridges, including a wine fridge and one with a large freezer section. It is is fully equipped. Leading out from it is the large separate dining room, facing the sea, which also has a selection of games, toys and books, including children’s books and a dining table that can seat up to 14 people. The expansive sitting room is above the dining room and enjoys spectacular sea views, and seating for up to 14 people. There are TVs in both the living room and dining room, with a range of TV channels, as well as terrestrial and Netflix. The largest of the bedrooms, with a king size bed, en suite and desk, is on the first floor and looks out over the garden, with a bay window. On the second floor, there is a double room with en suite and a sea view, a twin room with en suite looking out over the 1920s' Grade-2 listed Margate station, and another double room with a sea view that shares a bathroom on the third floor with a double room on the third floor. On the third floor, there is again a double room with en suite and a sea view, a twin room with en suite looking out over the roof tops, and another double room with a sea view that shares a bathroom on the third floor with the double room on the second floor. There is a cloakroom between the ground and first floor and a lovely big bath in the extension, where you can bathe while listening to the birds cheeping in the garden. The small walled garden, with its apple tree, wisteria, tiny summerhouse and table for al fresco dining, is fully enclosed. The basement is currently just used for storage.
