Description

Situated just on the edge of Dartmoor National Park and within easy walking distance of the historic village of Lydford. Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Devonshire countryside, this lovingly converted 'Shepherdess Hut' boasts all the charm and authenticity of a traditional Shepherd's Hut but with the added bonus of some real home comforts... The space Beautifully light and airy, The Shepherdess Hut consists of an open plan living space; a sitting area with wood burner, a small fitted kitchen to one end and a bedroom alcove to the other. Behind the bedroom area you'll find a little bathroom with loo, sink, fitted shower and heated towel rail. The kitchen has a sink, fridge, Belling cooker and all the pots and pans you'll need if you want to self cater. There are some lovely homely touches throughout; Egyptian cotton bedding, fluffy towels, original art on the walls, two large and comfy vintage leather armchairs in front of the fireplace and a little bookcase holding a range of novels, games, local guide books and maps. With countryside views in every direction, the Hut is also surrounded by it's own private garden. Out front there’s table, chairs and a parasol for alfresco eating or for just watching the sun go down with a glass of wine. Out back, there’s a cosy wooden bench and little fire pit if you fancy a bit of star gazing at night. Guest access The Hut has it's own gated access and private parking, and is surrounded by it's own small garden. There’re two chairs and a table with a parasol out front, and a wooden bench and fire pit out the back. A stone's throw from the garden is the historical Lychway footpath leading to the Moor one way and the village of Lydford to the other. To get to the village, you cross a little wooden bridge over the beautiful River Lyd, and the beginnings of the spectacular Lydford Gorge. Other things to note To get to the Hut you have to go down a few hundred yards of farm track - this is a hard stone track but is very rough and pot-holey, particularly at certain times of the year so caution is needed when driving down it. The surrounding area is working farmland and agricultural buildings, so although most of the time it is fantastically tranquil, there will of course be times when you will hear farming activity (cows, sheep, tractors etc). After heavy rain you will also be able to hear the river...
