The 'Casa Principessa' of Vatolla was built thinking of Giulia Rocca, the castellan of the Vargas-Machucha palace, with whom Giambattista Vico, her tutor, fell in love, unrequited, during his stay in Cilento, in a place "of beautiful site and perfect air". It overlooks the square dedicated to the philosopher. The two entrances face each other: a chestnut wood door from the nearby woods; the castle is accessed by a majestic ashlar stone portal that opens onto a pleasant courtyard.
