Trullo dell'Ovile

Ancient trulli located in the country between Alberobello and Locorotondo. The former residences of the shepherds of the Puglia region, the "Trulli" feature the typical stone roofs in the shape of a cone. The space A stay in these Trulli allows to disclose authentic atmospheres, while deeply immersed in the sounds and colours of a strong wild land. It's a multiple property made of 2 units, each one equipped with 2 bedrooms and sleeping capacity up to 5. The property is located in the countryside between Alberobello and Locorotondo, in the famous Itria Valley. Swimming pool shared between the two units. The property is dated approximately 1700 and it has been restored keeping the most of the original features, both internally and externally (eg stone floors). The property is made of 12 cones and includes two independent units with two dedicated external areas and one swimming pool to be shared. The external space is tiled with local stone and equipped with tables, chairs, beach umbrellas, barbecues, sunbeds, deckchairs. There's a nice garden with Mediterranean flowers and plants. The property originally was a small farm where life of humans was strict to life of animals; one unit was infact used as a house, the other as a stable. In these trulli you may find all the architectural elements that distinguish trulli from any other buildings are: the stone arcs, the cones, the ledge, the chimneypot, the gutters and the spout, the "chianche" (flat stones) roof, the pinnacle and the several symbols used for the decoration (monograms, emblems, initials and magical signs). The whole structure is built with local limestone. Made of concentric stone rings, the trullo's roof is laid on the supporting structure, with a slight overhang towards the interior. The structure is painted with lime, while the roof, made in order to facilitate the flowing of the rain water, remain unpainted. The rain water is channeled towards an underground cistern. The pinnacle on top of the trullo has a decorative purpose, but also acts as a keystone to locks the last layers of the roof structure in place. The property stands in the famous Valle D'Itria: if you overlook you will see an outstanding panorama made of hundreds stone roofs in the shape of a cone. This unit was the stables. These "Trulli" have been renovated to reflect contemporary tastes, while preserving their rustic style and traditional decor. It has two bedrooms. The first has two single beds. The second has a full size double bed. Dining room with kitchen corner, fridge and washing machine. Sitting room with fireplace and a single sofa bed. The bathroom has a shower. The thick walls, entirely made of stone, and the small windows, make this house perfect in terms of thermal insulation. Even in the hottest summer days the temperature inside the house is really comfortable: most of the times you will need a light blanket on the bed. The swimming pool, shared with the Trullo del Gelso Bianco, gives the opportunity of a nice fresh swim. An external shower, with hat water, is located in the pool area. Other things to note The house There are two air conditioning units. The trullo is built with large stone walls thus having a comfortable temperature during the summer. You will usually need a wool blanket on the bed! This accommodation is well suited for families with children. The water is not drinkable. Accessibility The house has not been specially equipped for wheelchair users, but it is all on the ground floor. There are some single steps both outside and inside. Outside The trullo is located in the countryside. Other trulli are in the neighbourhood. The outside is paved with local stone. There is a garden with local plants and flowers. The swimming pool is 4 by 9 meters and is 1.5 meters deep. The access to the pool area is protected with a wood gate for the safety of your children. The swimming pool is not heated. The swimming pool area is equipped with beach umbrellas, sun beds, chairs and tables. An outside heated shower is located in the pool area. Each unit has its outside area with big umbrellas, dining table and barbecue.
