This is a building with a rich history, unique architecture and superb interiors in each of the two apartments. Walking distance to shops. The space The size and scale and architecture of our building is the one thing that most people are fascinated by. It took 3 years for the building to be built and everywhere there is evidence of the past life of this remarkable building. As the Hall for the Presbyterian Church the gothic style windows, the 3 leaf clover pattern cast into columns and mouldings is typical of the architectural detail of church buildings of this time. There were 150 children that attended Sunday School and if you look carefully you may find one of the signatures on the external brickwork left behind from almost 100 years ago. This was the place where the community met for fetes, theatre productions, meeting or other community events. In 1919 it became the hospital in the Great Flu Epidemic. The building was put up for sale by the church as a redundant building in 2002 and its future was uncertain. Your hosts, the owners, purchased the building with the goal of restoring it beyond its former glory and bringing it into the 21st Century. This has been a lengthy and costly 12 year restoration to ensure it exceeds seismic codes and has a long term future. The transition from old to new is difficult to identify. Your hosts are happy to give you a tour of the building and to point out the historic points of interest. Guest access Enjoy your own privacy and space, with keys to your own apartment and access keys to the lobby so you can sightsee and come and go at your leisure. During your stay Your hosts are able to offer advice on local attractions and recommend things that will make your experience more memorable. We may not be on site at all times but are available by phone (or intercom) and are happy to assist our guests. Other things to note If you wish to order one of our gourmet cooked breakfasts, completed menu choices should be given to your hosts by 7pm the night before. If you require the storage of luggage while you travel on, prior to returning back to the area, we are able to assist you with this service.
