Babenorek Studio - Off Grid Accommodation

Nestled into 200 acres of natural bush, Babenorek Studio overlooks open farmland and rolling hills. Our off grid studio is constructed from lime rendered straw bales, it is cool in summer and warm in winter. We are 3 km from Deans Marsh & 22 km from Lorne & The Great Ocean Rd. The space We want you to be comfortable during your stay and well suited to the eco accommodation that we provide so we ask that you please read ALL INFORMATION on our site to see that it will be just right for your relaxing holiday. Beautiful bush walking starts at our front gate and cool waterfalls, lush fern gully's and spectacular beaches are just a short drive away. The Studio... Babenorek Studio was hand built by us more than twenty years ago to live in with our three young children while we built our family home close by. It is constructed from lime rendered straw bales so the walls are very well insulated, making it refreshingly cool in summer (with no need for air conditioning), and snug and warm in winter by our wood fire. Recycled timbers and preloved windows were used throughout the build. An Oregon goal post from a country oval serves as a handrail for the stairs. Upstairs is a queen size bed and two comfortable single beds. Downstairs there is a four burner cook-top and gas oven and a small functional kitchen area. A small fridge will store enough food and drinks for several days. The Nectre wood fire provides warmth to the whole studio. The spacious bathroom with views to the tree tops includes a water-less composting toilet and a shower that uses pure Otway's rainwater. There is also an outside shower. Babenorek Studio is the perfect place to unplug, relax and enjoy! Guest access Babenorek Studio is attached to our house by a wide carport and has its own private entry. We will be here to meet you & show you around the Studio & will be available by phone that you have everything you need. Car parking is conveniently located right beside the studio. Other things to note The power on our property is all off grid with no connection to any mains power - please be mindful of your power usage while you stay with us, especially during the cooler months when there is less sunlight. Please don't bring any hair straighteners, hair dryers or irons as they overload our system. Extra linen for additional beds will be charged at $40 per night. Babenorek Studio is well stocked with plenty of good books, quality magazines and board games to entertain you. There is no television...but we don't think that you will miss it. Bring your own laptop if you want to watch films or visit the historic Lorne Cinema, a scenic 20 minute drive away. 'Gus' our black Kelpie loves our guests and will most likely be there to greet you - but be warned.... don't be fooled when he 'asks' you to throw a stick for him, he will not leave you alone during your stay! And please don't let him inside, he knows he's not allowed! You will be living very close to nature when you stay at our eco accommodation. There is beautiful wildlife close by & also the occassional spider, if you are not a fan it is best you book somewhere more suited to your needs. Snakes are also in the nearby bushland and occassionally come close to our home - please watch your step in the warmer months!
