Coastal paradise in Otago
Description
An award-winning architect designed home, set on 2 acres of elevated rocky terrace with matchless views out to sea and north up the coast. It's on the east coast an hour's drive south of Dunedin in a remote area with strong natural history attractions. Our guest bedroom is spacious and gets sun most of the day. Ranchsliders give a fine sea view to the north and lead out onto a deck, then to the lawn. A bathroom just for guest use is alongside. Guests are welcome to enjoy most of the house! The space The guest room has hanging space, drawers, a small table, heater and a couple of chairs plus a chest to rest luggage on. There's an electric blanket on the queen-size bed. A separate bathroom containing toilet, shower, handbasin, towels etc solely for guest use is right beside the guest bedroom. Guests are welcome to use most of the rest of the house, including the library, lounge, conservatory and dining area. You are also welcome to use the kitchen and pots, plates, cups, cutlery etc but we ask that you clean up afterwards. Wifi internet and landline are freely available but cellphone reception is poor. Guests are more than welcome to explore the grounds which are about 0.7 ha (~2 acres). Guest access Apart from the guest bedroom and bathroom, lounge, dining room, kitchen, laundry and library. There is adequate parking. During your stay We—your hosts—are Warren and Riette, a married couple in our 60s, and happy to socialise with you and help you enjoy your stay in any way we can. Warren used to be the editor of New Zealand Geographic magazine and has a broad knowledge of much NZ natural history as well as things like farming, climate, the economy and NZ politics. Riette is a trained music educator who has worked in schools and universities both here and in South Africa. Other things to note Groceries and takeaway food are available in Milton ~20 km away. Because of this inconvenience, we are willing to provide an evening meal of mains and dessert for $25/person, provided guests have no special dietary requirements, such as the meal being vegan, dairy-free or gluten-free. Remember, guests are most welcome to use our kitchen with all the usual equipment and our pans, bowls, knives, crockery and cutlery etc to prepare their own food. If you would like to book for a longer stay or for a time when our calendar is not yet open, please contact us. It is likely we could still help you!
