Surf, sea, sailing & birding fun on your doorstep
Description
Cloudy winters, warm sunny summers, mother city has it all. Climb our mountains: de-stress, invigorate. Hike Zandvlei Nature Reserve; sight a lifer. Paddle out from famous Surfers' Corner (winter winds are best). Surf schools on the beachfront; Surf Emporium(ask for Robin) being the best. Kitesurfing is a rapidly growing activity amongst the shore breaks. or just chill in one of our waterfront coffee shops Return to a peaceful flat, quiet night of dreams. Then, do it again tomorrow. Welcome! The space Taringa, the name of our home, abounds with an indigenous fauna garden. This attracts all sorts of bird life, from little rooi-bekkies (red beaked finches) to Ha-de-dahs (glossy Ibis). We have a Cape Robin which nests regularly and an olive thrush who pulls out our useful earthworms. And Margot spotted a harmless mole snake in our front garden the other day. Don't worry your accommodation is in the back garden. Excluding the reptiles all may be viewed while having your morning coffee. Our two small to medium sized dogs, Jessie & Charley may want your loving attention but after you've made friends they will settle down as we all do with new friends. That's of course, if you sit very quietly. And, after a fun night out on the town, it's a great time to relax. Oh, by the way, please note that we are environmentally friendly, we care for the earth and those creatures that cannot speak for themselves. We do not use any toxic methods to destroy insects like mosquitoes, cockroaches, ants etc. Please note this fact. We make the best we can in keeping your accomodation clean and free of the above by environemtally friendly means but we are not mosquito or cockroach whisperers and cannot guarantee 24/7 a complete cockroach or mosquito friendly place. On the contrary we want guests who are like-minded and who care for the ground you walk on daily. Guest access Enter through a green teak gate, then pass through another wooden gate on the north side of our house down a path (lit automatically by a safety light at night). This path is sheltered by creepers and trees to enter a tree'd back garden and the garden flat you'll be enjoying. If you come from a land, even somewhere in sunny South Africa, where you keep your windows tightly shut please spare a thought for fresh air and open our windows every time you leave the apartment to venture into our beloved village. Each day you may wander down to our white sandy beaches, rent a surfboard, paddle out, catch a wave. With a winter offshore north-wester, the best surf is May to September in Muizenberg. Why not venture up one of our grand majestic mountains for the best views in the world. Peace and quiet too, away from the madden crowd. You may just pop into our village or sit in a waterfront coffee shop like The Commons (upstairs, nogal) and meet some locals, play some chess, check out the view, over cup of tea and muffin. Other things to note Cycling is another past-time. Ask me about renting bicycles and my neighbour who conducts tours of various places of interest like Cape Point, Hout Bay, Constantia Nek, even Masiphumelele & Khayelitsha. I can also point you in the direction of battery assisted cycle rentals where uphill pedalling is a synch. Mountain climbing is also great fun, and, our mountains have caves one called Boomslang runs right through one mountain. As a teenager I used to explore these caves with candles, torches and friends. Mother always had more laundry to do after these adventures. Surfing, of course, is all year round especially in winter when the offshore wind is blowing, creating perfect surfing conditions. Some excellent surfing schools (Surf Emporium - ask for Robin - being the best) on our beach front too.
