Description
Roa was once a thriving community serving the mining people. It now boasts four families, two holiday houses, sheep, chickens, many native birds and "remoteness" for some! The cottage is an older, rustic, comfortable and cosy cottage with a small yard and a colourful flower and vege garden. It is usually quiet and peaceful. There is a stream down behind the house which offers a place to cool off and enjoy. The owner lives on site and can assist in anyway you might find helpful for your stay. The space Roa is close to Blackball (approx 3 k's) and closer still to the road which takes you to the the Paparoa Great Walk. My house is rustic; it is not modern but is a well lived in home where you can relax and enjoy a hot bath; light the fire; listen to the birds or just read a book (of which there are many). Children are welcome where the front bedroom has toys, books and arts stuff for those indoor days. . Freeview TV, wifi, and music are available, but cell coverage can be intermittent. Maybe time to leave those devices at home and stare out the window! Guest access There is a small driveway suitable for one car which is available for your use. Off road parking is also available outside the house. Other things to note While there is small general store in Blackball, which incidentally provides great fish and chips Friday to Sunday nights, my home is a distance (30 minutes) from closest supermarket in Greymouth so it may be helpful to stock up before you arrive at Roa. There are several good eating establishments in Blackball including the Blackball Inn; Formerly the Hilton Hotel; good takeaways from the Blackball Store Friday to Sunday until 7pm. There is also the Blackball Salami Factory selling great salami and sausages.
