Welcome to No. 20, The High Street, Cockenzie! This idyllic fisherman’s cottage dates back to the 17th-century. It is the perfect holiday retreat for families, walkers on the John Muir Way - or simply for a romantic getaway. The views are spectacular. The cottage directly faces the sandy beach, a perfect little rocky cove, and the sea beyond. The sunsets are breath-taking and you may even glimpse dolphins and seals in their natural habitat. The space Inside, the cottage offers a bright and inviting space and provides you with windows on the ever-changing natural world outside. The wildness of the sea enhances the sense of freedom provided by this exceptionally beautiful location. After a day exploring the glorious landscape, you can play board games in front of the wood-burning stove, or snuggle up with a movie. Enjoy the quirky ambience of the decor, which includes art created by an up-and-coming young Scottish artist. The cottage is bright and spacious, with original wooden floors. The master bedroom has spectacular views over the cove and an en suite bathroom, and the second bedroom is also a double. In addition, the third bedroom contains two bunk beds, ideal for children or smaller adults. The kitchen is well-supplied and includes a washing machine. Even in this secluded and peaceful location, you can connect to the wider world should you wish, through the cottage’s WiFi. Guest access Cockenzie village is charming and offers a number of attractions, including a local house that offers afternoon teas, beautiful gardens, plants for sale and occasional events (such as jazz performances and exhibitions). You can meet the locals in two nearby pubs, or get a Chinese take-away or traditional fish and chips. If you are inspired by the cove in front of you, why not visit one of the two local fishmongers to purchase some fresh fish, straight from the sea? On-street parking. To explore further afield, there is a good bus service day and night. Or in the next village the train takes just 15 minutes to Edinburgh. In the area, you can discover a number of beautiful, quaint villages. North Berwick (on the sea) and Haddington village both have a wealth of history for you to explore and there are lots of small castles in the local area, which will transport you back in time.
