Sheppards Barton cottage, central Frome.

This a warm and welcoming cottage which was built in 1706 by the Sheppard family of Frome, who were prominent local weavers. The cottage is steeped in history and has a fabulous flagstone floor and Morso wood burning stove. Original elm floorboards, heavyweight beams and views down over Frome make this cottage a little gem. It sleeps ups to four guests in two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds. The space The cottage is on Sheppards Barton, a pedestrian only street at the top of Catherine Hill - a hill famous for its shops and steep incline! The front door of the cottage enters into a cosy sitting room, which is furnished in an eeclectic manner, with a mix of local auction finds and family heirlooms. There is no TV but we do have good WiFi , or you can switch off completely and absorb yourself in the crackling embers of the fire. Please help yourself to wood for the wood burning stove. The sitting room leads on to the kitchen, which is fully stocked and has a compact seating area. The downstairs shower room has underfloor heating and is at the rear of the property. A winding elm staircase leads up to the first floor of the cottage, where you will find a charming dining area which seats up to 6 guests. A master bedroom is also on this floor, to the front of the property overlooking Sheppards Barton. From the dining area, another winding elm staircase takes you up to the top floor twin bedroom, with its exposed beams and picture postcard views over the historic streets of Frome. This room is perfect for adults, older children and younger children who sleep in a cot, but the staircase opens straight into the room so we wouldn’t recommend it’s use for younger children who might toddle around it on their own at night. Guest access This cottage is your home from home for the duration of your stay. No rooms are out of bounds and there are no intriguing locked cupboards! I usually stay in the cottage on Monday nights but I could easily stay with my daughter who lives round the corner if anyone would want a whole week. Please contact me. Other things to note There is no TV in the house, although there is good WiFi, so please bring your own device if you wish to stream programmes or films. Also please note that there is an open staircase from the top floor twin room, which is shown in the pictures. We don’t have a stair gate, so this room may not be suitable for younger children who may be toddling independently! I am concerned that the cottage is super clean before you arrive, so I ensure that the cleaner sanitises all the high touch surfaces. I use cleaning materials and disinfectants approved by global health agencies and each room is cleaned by using a cleaning check list. I provide extra cleaning supplies, so you can clean as you stay. Nowadays, I always block out days before and after your stay, ensuring a gap between guests. Guest access Departure. Before you leave, could you please strip your bed and place all used linen and towels in the blue Ikea bag. There is an Ikea bag in the bottom drawer of each bedroom. Thank you. We ask you to vacate the cottage by 11am on the day of your departure. However, please let me know if you would like to arrive earlier or leave later. If we can facilitate this we will. Please return the keys to the key safe on departure. Thank you. Other things to note What’s in the cottage? We provide all bed linen and towels, the kitchen is stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper. There is a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, good WiFi and books, but remember, no TV, so if you do want to stream anything, please bring your own device.
