Description
A charming characterful cottage nestled in the heart of the beautiful rolling Blackdown Hills. Ferndale Cottage is a real rural retreat yet only a short drive away from the stunning Devon and Dorset Jurassic Coast. Set in the heart of Stockland - a sleepy and tranquil Devon village where peace is broken only by birdsong and church bells. The space The cottage has recently been fully refurbished and has all the amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Fully equipped with TV, DVD, DAB radio and free Wifi. The TV also allows streaming services so don't forget your Netflix and Amazon Prime logons. Located on the ground floor is a good sized beamed lounge/dining room; this leads down to a galley kitchen containing all the appliances for modern living including electric cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. Off the kitchen is a downstairs cloakroom where there is also a handy washing machine. In the winter the eco air source central heating complemented by an inviting woodburner, makes for cosy nights in. The warmer summer months can be enjoyed outside where there is a decked area with steps leading down to a patio courtyard. Over a little bridge spanning the stream (don't forget a game of pooh sticks!) is a lovely long south facing lawned area. Guest access Quietness and privacy make this an ideal retreat for families, couples and anyone wishing to enjoy this undiscovered part of Devon. Enchanting walks are on the doorstep and a variety of beaches are a short drive away. Foodies can enjoy lovely country pubs throughout the area as well as Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's world famous River Cottage which is just 6 miles away. For the kids, in addition to the beaches, Crealy Adventure Park just 30 minutes away is a must day out! Other things to note The Kings Arms has now reopened and at just a stone’s throw away (literally), this pub is a real treat for guests to the cottage. This is just one of many glowing reviews: A star is born! Indeed, a 5-star is born. Everything, just everything, about the newly-reopened Kings Arms immediately establishes it as the finest and most glorious pub for miles around. Traditionally West Country throughout, all flagstones and beams, brilliantly-kept beers, wonderful food that is inspired, delicious and hands-down beating all rivals and the very best of the very warmest of welcomes. Without any doubt this is going to be THE pub to visit in the Lyme/Axminster/Honiton area; utterly, utterly brilliant. Congratulations to a lovely team for setting the bar for how all pubs should be. I cannot recommend it too highly.
