Description

Detached bungalow renovated to a high standard in the village of Llanvaches on the edge of Wentwood Forest, the largest ancient forest in Wales. Located between Newport and Chepstow, The Sheiling has views over the open countryside and is perfect for a relaxing getaway offering peaceful forest walks, scenic views, and exploring the exceptional beauty and attractions of the surrounding area. Our local pub/restaurant is a short walk down the lane and there are a variety of traditional pubs nearby. The space The Sheiling is a detached property dedicated to airbnb guests, with the hosts living nearby in the same village (not annexed or within the owners grounds). It offers private relaxing rural experiences with the conveniences of modern amenities and easy access to the the many attractions of the surrounding area. Guest access Guests have full and private access to all indoor and outdoor amenities at The Sheiling. Indoors the kitchen is well equipped with a 4 burner gas hob, electric fan oven, microwave, inbuilt fridge / freezer and pantry cupboard. All necessary kitchen crockery, cutlery, and utensils are provided. The kitchen opens to a 4 person dining area overlooking the back garden. The lounge is set in an L shape around an open gas fireplace with south facing views over the garden patio and rural surroundings. There is also an internet connected television (you will need to use your Amazon or Netflix account for any pay per view charges). The lounge opens onto the garden patio via french doors for outdoor dining. The garden patio is not overlooked and has views over the surrounding country side. Guests can make use of the charcoal BBQ and the 4 person hot tub which sits next to the patio (we do ask that guests use the utility rear door when returning from the hot tub). All bedrooms have an open wardrobe concept. The master bedroom has a standard double bed with views over the countryside. The middle bedroom also has a standard double bed and the small bedroom has a standard single bed. Spare linen for all bedrooms is provided. The main bathroom has a simple layout with hand basin, toilet, separate shower and bath, and under floor heating. A second bathroom is located next to the utility room with separate shower. A separate dedicated office with 100Mb wifi broadband for laptop workspace / business overlooks the front garden containing apple and damson trees. Other things to note For those who enjoy exploring nature, The Sheiling is located in Llanvaches, a quite village on the edge of Wentwood Forest, the largest ancient forest in Wales, and Gray Hill with its spectacular views over the Bristol Channel and surrounding countryside. Little known are Gray Hill's Celtic ruins including standing stones and remains of a stone circle. The forest boasts many natural woodland walks and open views. An ancient hill fort is also nearby, as are many superb examples of medieval castles. The Wye Valley is only a short drive, as are the Brecon Beacons, both offering stunning walks with renowned views and make for perfect excursions before returning to relax in the hot tub. Trout and salmon fly fishing is also popular in the area with the Usk and Wye rivers and nearby reservoirs presenting anglers with superb fishing. Canoeing centres in Monmouth and Symonds Yat also offer a great way to explore the Wye river with its many attractions. For cycling enthusiasts. The surrounding lanes and B roads are popular with road cyclists, with the route to Usk and its climb over the crest of Wentwood Forest being particularly favoured – the roads and lanes winding easily between Newports Velodrome, Llanvaches, and Monmouth for a grand day's ride. Mountain biking centres at Cwmcarn and Forest of Dean are within easy access, as are the Black Mountains, although Wentwood Forest on our doorstep is well known for its local trails and challenging routes up to 50km can easily be knitted together. Strava enthusiasts can quickly see a large variety of on and off road route options that caters for every fitness level. The Sheiling has two garages, the larger garage being accessible from within the house so bikes can be securely locked indoors, or alternatively in the hosts own garage nearby which has a deadbolt through the floor. For those attending special events in the area, such as business conferences, rugby, golf, cycling or equestrian events, Llanvaches is located approximately 7 miles equidistant between Chepstow, Newport, Caerleon, and Usk. Newport's cycling Velodrome and the newly built International Conference Centre are close by. Equestrians have both Chepstow Racecourse and the David Broome Event Centre. Golf enthusiasts have world class courses at the historic St Pierre club and The Celtic Manor (host of the 2010 Ryder Cup). Rugby fans have some great transport options with frequent trains direct into Cardiff centre running from Severn Tunnel Junction (free parking) and Newport Station. Newport's business centre is within easy access, as is Cardiff by rail or motor.
