Description
The Horse House, a detached unique and quirky one bed cottage on the site of former stables, has incredible far-reaching countryside views over Devon, Dorset and Somerset from every room. It has a vaulted living/dining room, fully equipped kitchen, a beautifully fitted shower room downstairs, and a loft-style bedroom with king size bed upstairs. Nearby by car: Local shop (2 mins); South West Rail Axminster (10 mins), A303 Ilminster roundabout (25 mins), Lyme Regis (20 mins), Exeter (45 mins). The space The Horse House has a retro feel inside with plenty of original mid-century details but has all the modern technology and appliances you’ll need including dedicated wifi and Smart TV. For more old-fashioned pursuits, there is a selection of books you're welcome to borrow while you're staying here, as well as backgammon and board games. The kitchen is fully equipped with (hopefully) everything you might need including plates, glasses, mugs, cutlery, kitchen utensils and a corkscrew of course! There is an induction hob, a main oven and a combination oven/microwave. It's also equipped with a dishwasher and washer/dryer both of which can be used with the eco friendly detergents supplied. You'll be welcomed with a starter package of fair trade teas, coffees and biscuits as well as milk, cereal, bread, butter and jam. For stays of three nights or longer, we'll reward you with a bottle of prosecco or wine, beer or cider depending on your preference. We'll even make sure you've got ice cubes in the freezer. The upstairs bedroom is large but has an apex roof so watch your head a bit at the sides of the room. There is a super comfy king size bed, table and chairs, dressing table and a lovely leather sofa. We're super dog-friendly here (you can bring up to two well behaved dogs with you at no extra cost). Please don't allow any dogs upstairs (we have a stairgates installed at the top and bottom ofstairs to the bedroom) and use throws provided if they are sofa-surfers. Please never leave your dog(s) unattended during your stay. If dark skies and star-spotting are your thing, you'll really enjoy staying here as at night, there is barely another light to be seen. If you ask nicely, you can borrow our telescope - you'll probably know more about how it works than us! We'll make sure the bird feeders are full so keep your eyes open for the huge variety of birds that fly around here including greater spotted woodpeckers, collared doves, nuthatches, chaffinches, our shy green woodpecker and resident buzzards as well as the annual visits from swallows and swifts. We have an award-winning pub/restaurant, The Tytherleigh Arms, within walking distance, as well as a great Farm Shop with attached food stall for eat in and take aways. There's a local shop with newspapers, groceries and household staples just two minutes in the car up the road in Chardstock. The local town of Axminster is only ten minutes away where you'll find the newly-renovated George Hotel, some great independent coffee shops like The Higgler and the Arts Cafe, and a variety of other independent shops as well as Tesco and two Co-ops, Miller's Farm Shop, petrol garage and of course, the famous Axminster Carpet factory outlet shop. If you don't want to eat out but would prefer not to cook, both Indian restaurants (Safar and Cinnamon) in Axminster will deliver to here (ask them to come to Lower Tytherleigh Farm as they will probably not know the holiday cottage by name). There is a fantastic fish and chip shop in Axminster too (Lemon Plaice) and a great Chinese (Golden House), both of which will take your order over the phone so it's ready for you to whizz in and collect it. There is also a Dominos Pizza in Chard about ten minutes away in the car. Guest access You can park right in front of the Horse House and there is usually room for at least one other car if required. Once you shut The Horse House gate, the whole of your private area is dog-safe including our little piece of heavenly woodland that is yours to enjoy while you're here. We also have a 2 acre field which, as long as there is no livestock in situ when you visit, you are welcome to use to exercise yourselves and your dog(s). You have your own private terrace overlooking the wood with seating and dining areas and a firepit. We'll give you a starter kit of logs for free and you can buy more from us at £5 for ten logs. If the vegetable plot at the bottom of our garden is up and running when you visit, you are welcome to pick up some home grown seasonal veg when you need it (but please text us first to let us know you're coming so you don't give us (or the dog) a fright!
