Description

Welcome to Ballard Farm Holidays. We provide self-catering accommodation in two of our converted farm buildings set in the beautiful and tranquil landscape of Co Wicklow, Ireland. The Granary was originally used as a grain barn and still retains many unique features. Conversion adaptations include full wheelchair access, with a downstairs twin bedroom and bathroom, and large sliding doors that lead out to a private patio where stunning views extend across the Wicklow valleys. The space Ballard farm, facing south west into a beautiful Wicklow valley, has been held by Michael and Denise Sloan for over fifty years. In the early days the farm bred and managed a jersey dairy herd and later changed to sheep and tillage. The farm is situated a full kilometer from the road, with a glorious avenue edged by spring bulbs and mature trees. The farmyard has a traditional courtyard design with the rear of the family house facing stables opposite, flanked by Swallow Barn (originally for livestock) to one side and The Granary (originally a grain barn) opposite. On occasion we have had joint rentals of the two houses to accommodate for family reunions and large holiday celebrations for which the situation of the two houses works perfectly. The substantial grounds, in and around Ballard Farm, are a gardeners delight. Full credit must be given to Denise Sloan, whose creative and natural green touch is evident by the spectacular array of blooms and sweetly scented flowering throughout all seasons, including a productive vegetable garden, orchard and wild flower paddock. The large shared garden is ideal for relaxation, play and shade with the old apple tree as host to an array of jungle ropes, swings and hammock amongst the leafy branches. Since the conversion to self-accommodation of two of the main farm buildings, Swallow Barn and The Granary, we now have many regular visitors and always enjoys meeting new guests. Both houses are open all year round. Guest access Guests are welcome to enjoy the farmyard and large shared garden which is ideal for ball games and running around. Barbeques are available for both houses with outdoor patio furniture to relax and enjoy the sounds and tranquility of the countryside. Guests are welcome to collect eggs from the henhouse and seasonal fruit from the orchard and hedgerows. We have a 12 foot yurt that resides in the wildflower paddock in the summer months. This is particularly popular with kids who tend to claim it as their 'den' however if you are lucky enough to be allowed in, it is a lovely space for reading a book, drawing or just closing the eyes for an afternoon snooze. There is a small screen printing studio in what was originally the tack room. This is largely used by Denise and Stephanie Sloan however if you are interested in printing something of your own have a chat to Denise who time permitting is very happy to help you out. A great rainy day activity for children. Other things to note All of our animals are free range on the farm. In addition to the sheep (although we do try to keep them in the fields!) there are 3 large dogs. A working sheep dog, an Irish setter and a spaniel. They are very friendly especially with children and would like nothing more than to have be pampered all day by adoring guests. We also have a pair of geese who tend to pad off together in a field and an array of hens and guinea fowl.
