The space A single-story eco stone barn, with all modern conveniences, Graded 4 Stars by Visit Wales, and 'Cyclists and Walkers Welcome' accredited, as well as a Green Tourism Silver Award. An ideal place to experience rural tranquility and peace in the heart of the Welsh Borders. We believe in working with the history of the building and have retained many period features to keep its story alive. Conveniences of contemporary living sit comfortably within the location of the barn and reflect our life in Africa as well as our rural roots. All rooms lead from the spacious living and dining room; kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin. The impressive living room, with vaulted ceiling, beams and original flagstones, has a dining area, Freeview tv, cd player, radio and a selection of games and reading material. The whole building is well insulated, cool in summer behind the stone walls and extra cosy in a Welsh winter, with the log burner for added comfort. A refurbished butler sink sits happily in the traditional farm kitchen which is fully equipped with electric hob and oven, under-worktop fridge/freezer, washing machine, and dishwasher. There is an energy-efficient electric clothes drier, perfect for damp coats or a full wash. The bathroom has a thermostatic shower, and a large bath, heated towel rail and Victorian-style wash basin and wc. There is an electric shaving point and a hairdryer. The adjoining original stone and timber barn is a wet weather haven or simply a place to let off steam, with table football, snooker, darts and space for children to play. Leading from this is an outside seating area overlooking a wooded valley, full of the sounds of a rippling steam, and plenty of birdsong especially in the breeding season. A BBQ is available for guests. Overwhelmingly, visitors to the farm comment on the peace and tranquility. Set well away from the main road, Drovers Retreat is a perfect place to escape the stresses of the modern world without compromising on comforts. We live in the farmhouse, tucked away at the far end of the yard and are here to help and advise when needed but otherwise you can easily feel you are the only people for miles. Guest access An adjoining games barn offers table football, snooker, etc.. Our guests have access to our woodland seating area next to the barn, and further 2 hectare Drovers Woodland Walk for picnics, exercising dogs and/or children, or just strolling around and absorbing nature. From the front door, a private track (the original entrance to the farm up to 1870, and accessible to our visitors) leads into the Radnor Forest, an area of hills, woodland, tracks and pasture fields. Other things to note Feel close to this history and tranquil landscape. Walk along the green lanes and footpaths; listen to the sounds of nature and livestock, or just breath the clear upland air. Ideal for walkers, and anyone seeking a peaceful escape from the hurly-burly of modern life, yet with many outdoor activities on the doorstep. A great centre to explore the secret and historic towns, villages and countryside of the Welsh Borders, with its many hidden treasures.
