Description

The Farmhouse has been at the entrance to the Santon Bridge hollow since the days of the old packhorse trains that used to ply their way between Whitehaven and Kendal over Styhead Pass. This fascinating old building provides spacious accommodation for up to eight people (sometimes more), with breathtaking views of Wasdale. Short lets are available at last minute so just phone. The house is good for couples, families (with kids), and we do take pets at a small cost. (Friday to Friday normally). The space With four large double en-suite bedrooms, two wood burning stoves, a classic ‘living’ farm kitchen, separate ‘character’ dining room and a comfortable, light living room, this is a truly special place to base yourself in the Western Lake District. Essentially, the house is a warm, homely and relaxing space, set in the most beautiful of locations, the building is over 150 years old and has the patina to show it, it is not a boutique hotel! Please note we do not provide towels so please bring them, overseas guests however will be supplied. The picture you see on the website shows the farmhouse which is on the left side of the photo. To the right is a converted barn which is a separate property, the farm has been converted into several separate buildings now and is a very pleasant location at the foot of the Wasdale valley. The decor is old fashioned and oldie-worldie, and the interior is very original. Guest access Please supply your address by email and phone and we'll send you keys or there are other arrangements for short notice. Access is normally from 4.00 pm (on Fridays in season) to 10.00 am on checkout day in order that the cleaners can prepare for the next guests. We do ask guests to checkout on time, particularly if other guests are arriving the same day, as this allows the cleaner to thoroughly carry out the changeover. Other things to note There is a small town, Gosforth, three miles away that you can buy groceries (cash machine too), but please bring something with you if you are arriving late. There is a petrol station at Holmrook which also sells groceries and has a cash machine. We understand from other guests that Asda will deliver groceries to the farmhouse. Bedlinen is of course provided but don't forget to bring your own towels. Whilst we do accept pets all we ask is that the pet rules are adhered to and the pets are kept downstairs. There is a small charge for each pet and the cost is £25 each. We inform guests that the house provides a relaxed traditional atmosphere as it is over 150 years old and shows it. Discounts are available out of season and for longer stays.
