Beautiful house in Maremma!
Description
The house is situated at a distance of some two kilometers from Massa Maritima, a renown medieval town which is in itself a little gem of art and history. The coast is 17 Km. South, and its beaches are very much appreciated throughout Europe. The space First of all I must make clear that ours is not a country mansion, but rather a peasant house in which my family used to live from 1898 until 1961. The house (an eighteenth century building of rustic and essential architecture) was one of the thirty two properties of a local aristocrat, and my relatives were allowed to live there and work the land in exchange for half of each year’s harvest. In 1953, thanks to the national agrarian reform, my family could redeem the property, which we have used as a holiday home since 1970. My brother and I own one half of the building, the second half of which is the property of my cousin, who runs there a bed and breakfast business that is currently not operational. The house is very cozy, clean and comfortable, and equipped with everything you may need: washing machine, dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, barbecue, crockery, sheets and furnishings for beds and bathrooms, Wi-fi and television. There are three bathrooms, two bedrooms, a sofa bed upstairs and a large sofa bed in the living room. All windows and doors are equipped with a brand new anti-mosquito net that prevents the passage of even the smallest insect. From 1898 onward there has never been a single theft in the area, but since the house is a little isolated I would still recommend that you keep your valuable things in a safe place. The house is easily reached also on foot from Massa Marittima (which is about two km away). The last three hundred meters are a gravel road, which is a little bumpy, but the path is still easily passable without problems provided you drive with a minimum caution. From Massa Marittima you can reach Siena by car in less than an hour, and Florence in an hour and a half. From Follonica railway station (about 15 km from Massa Marittima) you can take a train to Rome (about two and a half hours) or to Pisa (about one hour) Mobile phones throughout the Massa Marittima area sometimes suffer line problems, but in the house there is also a landline that you can use whenever necessary. Assistance and emergencies My friend Giuliano (who lives in Massa Marittima) will be there every morning and every afternoon to feed our cat the four goats which live in a shed at the other end of the yard. He also takes care of watering the lawn in front of the porch and the other plants of the house. He is an exquisite gentleman and you can rely on him for every need and information. He doesn't speak English, but if you should need his help, just call me and I'll give him all the appropriate instructions. In Massa Marittima there is a small, very efficient hospital (single telephone number for emergencies: 112), and a police station (tel. 118). All the best Other things to note WiFi password: PODEREILFICO1898! If necessary, the modem can be reset by clicking the button on the back.
