Located fifty meters from the old port of Rosmeur, where you will find many restaurants and bistros, and also about fifty meters from all the shops you will need… Les Halles included. Two beaches are within walking distance in ten minutes, and you have the Tud bus (Douarnenez urban transport) to easily access the Treboul Marina and other beaches, as well as nearby villages and towns. The space Ker BerLi A Douarnenez, in the district of the Chapel of Saint Helena, a listed 17th century monument, where it is possible that the famous Marquis de Ponkalec was able to reveal it, you go down Rue Anatole France and turn right at the second street, a few steps again and finally you will arrive. At first glance, the facade will seem banal, so you have to enter... In a harmonious old and modern mix, you can then start living in a house built in 1781, eight years before taking the Bastille. It was built from the remains of another house, from the 17th century, whose most visible remains are: “  the door frame to the courtyard and its renaissance-like linen, and the fireplace in the back, which was the hearth of this former home, as well as the back wall to the left of the fireplace,” a charming courtyard to relax or grill! It was built by a sailor who may be the fisherman and then inhabited by many generations of sardine fishermen and cannery workers, the " Pen Sardines." Following the bronze sardine encrusted in the asphalt of the surrounding streets, you will discover the paths traveled by these ladies to get to the factory. Their hours were " flexible ", and, depending on the tide, the boats arrived, noon, midnight, sixteen or four hours, you had to go to the cannery... And you could even visit, in a fifteen minute walk from the house, the first sardine cannery operated by Romans between the first and 5th centuries. If you listen closely, amidst the screaming of gulls, you may hear our venerable walls telling you the story of these people, who made the story of Douarnenez. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Douarnenez, near Sainte Hélène’s Chapel, a historical monument from XVIIth Century -where it is possible that the famous Marquis de Ponkalec has prayed-, you go down Anatole France St. and you turn right at the corner of the second street; still a few steps and you are there! An ordinary facade at first sight, so you should enter… In a harmonious scenery of old and modern styles, you can then begin to enjoy life at an ancient house dated 1781, eight years before the Bastille’s take over… The house was built on the remains of another house, even older -XVIIth Century-, from which you can still see the vestiges when you enter the backyard: “the door’s frame in Renaissance style and the very old chimney, which was the ancient house’s heart, as well as the wall on the chimney’s left side”. Today, they give the framework to a charming terrace, where you can just rest, or prepare your barbecues! The house was built for a sailor, probably a captain, and inhabited thereafter by generations of sardine’s fishers and women working at the sardines’ preservation and canning, the “Pen Sardines”. If you choose to follow the little bronze sardines embedded in the asphalt of the streets surrounding the house, you will discover the path these women followed between the port and the canning establishment. They worked “flexible” hours since, depending on sea tides, ships arrived at midday or midnight, at six or at four o’clock, and they had to go to headquarters… And, just a fifteen minutes walk from the house, you could also visit the first structure for sardines’ preservation ever built: Romans exploited it from the Ist to the Vth Century. If you listen carefully, among seagulls’ songs you will maybe hear our ancient walls telling the story of these peoples, who made Douarnenez’s history. Our house, with its spacious and luminous rooms, is located 50 meters from the Old Port of Rosmeur, where you can find many restaurantes and bars. And going the other way, a 50 meters’ distance away, you will find every shop you need…even the Old Market, “Les Halles”. Two beaches are at a 10 minutes’ walk distance from the house, and you can try the TUD bus (Douarnenez’ Urban Transport) to reach other beaches, as well as Treboul’s leisure port or other cities and villages in the region.
