Birch Bay is a coveted vacation destination that draws people from throughout the US and Canada. It is brimming with wildlife and beautiful nature views, where you can see the San Juan islands and Mt Baker. Because it is such a wide and shallow bay, it’s water tends to be warmer than most other salt water bays in the PNW. This, coupled with sandy beaches, miles of walking and bike trails and public boat launches makes it an ideal vacation spot. Located close to the US/Canada border, just minutes from Bellingham, this is where you can enjoy nature, see whales feeding in the harbor, enjoy water sports, golfing, fishing or skiing / snowboarding at Mt Baker all while living comfortably. There are dozens of small town local restaurants and grocery stores nearby and Bellingham is just a short drive away for the bigger city stores like Costco, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Target, Wal-Mart and the Bellis Fair Mall. Cars are the recommended mode of traveling to and from the Air BnB. However, Birch Bay offers miles of bike paths and walking trails and is also legally zoned as a golf cart zone so these are an option if you need to zip down to the local convenience store. There are several local bus stops that serve Birch Bay. Uber also works in this area, although drivers tend to be available during day hours. Public taxis are also available. Bellingham International Airport is the closest airport, with frequent direct flights to/from the San Juan Islands, Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson and even Hawaii. The main airlines that fly out of Bellingham Airport are Alaska Airlines, SouthWest and Allegiant. WINTER SEASON TRAVELERS: Entrance to neighborhood is up a hill leading away from the beach that is approximately 100 feet in length. During the winter months when there is a possibility of there being snow or ice on the roads, vehicles with 4 wheel drive are recommended to go up and down the hill.
