Welcome to the Holiday Home Nairz Apartment "Edelweiss" is a homely and comfortable attic flat (45sqm) at 1530m above sea level in Prettau (Ahrntal), not far from the famous pilgrimage site Saint Spirit. Max. 4 adults + 1 child - Bedroom: 1 double bed for 2 people + possibly 1 crib. - Living room: 1 sofa bed for 2 people The space Surrounded by a landscape of very high mountains, which attract hiking and ski touring, lies our comfortable home, 1530m above sea level. Our home is not far from Saint Spirit, a famous pilgrimage site. We are pleased to share our oasis of well-being which invites not only the adventurous, but also those who want to enjoy nature, natural beauty and a range of outdoor activities, both summer and winter. Apartment "Alpenrose" consists of two bed rooms, one with a double bed and the other one with 2-3 single beds. In the second bedroom a timber fired heat bank is provided. In Addition, the apartment includes a bathroom and a large kitchen with gas stove, oven and wood fired stove. The apartment has a large balcony, TV and free Internet. The village of Prettau grew up around a copper mine (in operation until 1893) hundreds of years ago and so has a rich history. Many historical and strategical border crossings, such as "Birnlücke", the saddles "Heilig-Geist-Jöchl" and "Hundskehl Joch", are located in our community. The old and well used smuggling tracks are nowadays used as hiking tracks. In addition, Prettau is situated in the National Park "Rieserferner-Ahrn", which offers numerous destinations for the summiteer. Some of These well-known 3.000m high peaks are "Rauchkofel", "Großer Löffler", "Rötspitze" and "Dreiherrenspitze". A visit to the National Park House in Kasern and a side trip to the Copper Mine Museum should not be missed. Here, you can experience a part of the copper mining story as well as visiting the Climatic Gallery for a cure. The Saint Spirit chapel in the valley end is well worth a visit. Make sure you ask the local People about the legend which revolves around the little chapel. They will be very pleased to repeat this history. As well, you can stock up with food etc at the small grocery shop in Prettau. Experience the 4 seasons in Prettau... The Spring in Prettau As the spring in Prettau comes late, our guests can enjoy the winter for a longer time. The cross-country ski run will often be available till Easter. People who are keen on ski-touring, can still go up to the nearby peaks for a little while. Ski tours to the "Dreiherrenspitz" and "Rötspitze" are possible till the end of May. When the snow in the valley begins to melt, the first crocuses decorates the fields in white and purple and fill our valley with their colourful glory. The Summer in Prettau In the middle of June the summer finally begins as the short spring vanishes and nature moves on. In the last weeks of June the mountains of Prettau are in full magnificent bloom and the hillsides are covered with Alpine Rose and many other mountain flowers, turning this landscape into a real paradise. The warmest summer months, July and August invite hikers and mountain climbers to enjoy the quite of nature. In Prettau there are many high tracks such as the "Lausitzerweg", the track up to the hut "Birnlücke", the track across the hut " Lenkjöchelhütte" from the valley "Röttal" to the valley "Windtal", or the solitary high track from the hut "Rötalm" to the hut "Stegeralm". A hike to the high mountain lake "Waldnersee" makes a Holiday in Prettau an unforgettable memory. Mountaineers have the opportunity to reach the mountains around Prettau by hiking on beautiful and sometimes challenging tracks. Mountains highly regarded by mountaineers are the "Rötspitze", the "Dreiherrenspitze", the "Ahrnerkopf", the "Rauchkofel" and the "Schöntalkopf". In addition, the high alpine and border crossing hiking tracks take you to the nearby valleys "Zillertal", "Krimmlertal" or to the village "Defreggen" in East-Tirol. Other adventurous leisure time facilities recommended for our sporty guests are the natural climbing walls, the tree walks and rafting. The Autumn in Prettau When the days are getting shorter and the nights are already cooler, the summer draws to a close and autumn begins. September brings our valley a period of fine weather. A walking tour in the chilly morning hours refreshes our hearts and souls. It is a pleasant feeling when the first shafts of sunlight appear as a sign that it is going to be a cloudless day. Upon arrival at a peak, the distant view is overwhelming and nature is promising beauty with the autumnal colours of red, brown and yellow. On the alpine pastures (Alm) the cattle, sheep, goats and hourses are still grazing on the last grasses while the dairy farmers are preparing to bring the animals back to the valley farms before cold sets in. Bringing the animals back to their farms in the valley is a very old and continuing tradition in many parts of the Alps and it is called "Almabtrieb". The cows are highly decorated with flowers by their proud owners and parade through the town to much clapping, cheering and music. At times the first snow falls overnight. After that it is especially cozy to sit by the wood fired oven while enjoying a good glass of wine and a traditional farmer's meal. The Winter in Prettau During winter, Prettau presents an idyllic scene. Because this northernmost Italian village extends right to the main alpine ridge, we always have large and reliable falls of snow, thus extending the snow season. At this time we have many outdoor activities too. Within striking distance (1km) there is a 10km long cross country ski run and an ice-skating rink. Several walking tracks lead to the famous place of pilgrimage, Saint Spirit and to romantic chalets which invite walkers to stop for a bite to eat and drink. Those keen to sled will have a lot of fun at the sled run. As well, there are two Ski-Resorts, Klausberg about 10 minutes away by car and Speikboden, about 30 minutes away. The beautiful end of the valley around Saint Spirit offers a perfect starting point for people who are keen on ski-touring. Our mountain region will provide excellent conditions whether the snow is powder or firm. Among other options , we recommend a tour to the peak of "Ahrnerkopf 3050m high", to the saddle "Krimmler Tauern" with its mountain "Schöntalkopf 2774m high", as well as to the saddle "Heilig Geist Jöchel 2662m high". A tour in firm snow to the peak of "Rauchkofel 3.250m high" makes your heart beat faster. However, a less challenging and safer ski-tour takes you up to the hut "Stegeralm" and further on to the alpine pasture at 2.300m high. The most popular and perhaps also the most beautiful ski-tour goes through the valley "Röttal" or "Windtal" up to the hut "Lenkjöchelhütte 2.600m high" and further on to the mountain peak "Rötspitze 3.290m high".
