Sky Cottage, delightful Cornish haven

The space Sky Cottage is a beautifully restored vernacular Cornish cottage built as one of a pair in around 1850, it is the perfect sanctuary from the stresses of work and responsibility and a great central place from which to explore all of Cornwall. Located in the pretty riverside village of Golant-by-Fowey, Sky Cottage is furnished to a very high standard with a large comfy leather sofa and tub chair in the lounge, oak floors, wood-burning stove and unlimited dry logs, fire-lighters, matches etc are provided. The beautiful airy bedroom with exposed beams and twinkle lighting has a king-sized 5' bedstead with excellent mattress, topper, and quality 100% cotton bed-linen, it has a view over the village rooftops to the river. Lovely soft towels are also provided. Pillow and mattress protectors are of course laundered for every guest. The lounge has a 'smart' digital 40" TV with Free View and Netflix (logged in ready for you). One of the plug sockets has four USB charging points. There is a European plug converter available. The bedroom 32" TV is digital with Free View . There is free Wi-Fi in the cottage, and an ethernet cable should you need one. A well equipped kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and large fridge with separate freezer above, and a worktop for food preparation. (There is no washing machine - local laundry only 3 miles, details in the information file at the cottage.) Within the village there is Kayak hire from 'Encounter Cornwall' for private hire or guided river tours (see our Sky Cottage discount code in the information file) they also have a tea shop/cafe by the river. Golant was the home of EV Thompson who wrote the wonderful Retallick series of novels set in Cornwall, well worth a read. To dine in, cook at the cottage or order a takeaway from the local Fisherman's Arms pub (200m) on the water-front or treat yourselves for a special occasion at one of the many superb restaurants nearby. Swim in the sea at Polkerris Beach (4 miles) or Readymoney beach in Fowey (4 miles) or at Trenython Manor (when open) where you get lunch and a swim in their indoor pool. With such fantastic walking all around you could easily park the car for a week and just walk. The Saints Way passes right through the village so join it in either direction to Fowey or Lanlivery (The Crown Inn) or divert to Lostwithiel for more great eateries and mooching places! Trips to Padstow, Truro and Plymouth are all only an hour or less. St Austell, Mevagissey (a very pretty fishing town), Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are all less than 30 minutes. A couple of miles up the road are The Hidden Valley Gardens and a little further to Duchy Nursery (Lostwithiel) a wonderful shop, garden centre and superb restaurant. Other things to note The Fishermans Arms, our local pub, gets very busy so booking is strongly advised. The nearest shop is the well stocked village shop in Tywardreath, also butcher Charlie Harris (they supply sausages to Rick Stein!) and a Thai/Fish and Chips takeaway. The nearest supermarket (excellent Co-op) is in St Blazey which is about 4 miles.
