Exclusive private estate neighborhood called Miotoni Heights in Karen, mostly occupied by the who and who of the Kenyan elite in commerce and politics. Family and kid friendly, but also quiet from the bustle and hustle of Nairobi city. Local sights include Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum and The Swedo House, the oldest in Karen. There are lots of good restaurants, including Indian, Japanese, Italian and Spanish, and a newly opened shopping mall called 'The Hub" only 10 min walk, home to many high end stores, restaurants and banks. “I had a farm in Africa, at the foot of the Ngong Hills,” so says Karen Blixen in her book Out Of Africa, a colonial memoir. It is here that the story of Karen begins. When in 1931 a developer by the name Remy Martin bought the land owned by Karen Blixen, the Danish author, and converted it into residential lots, he had no idea that he had just initiated what in modern day would be one of Nairobi’s fastest growing suburbs. More than 80 years later, Karen, which was named in honour of Ms Blixen, is now an affluent suburb sprawling with gated communities, ranches belonging to some key individuals in the country and high-end shopping malls. For those of us who call Nairobi home, the city's muscular, cosmopolitan charms include a vibrant cultural life, fabulous places to eat and exciting nightlife. If you're just passing through, this melting pot of people and attractions has an unlikely national park (black rhinos and all), an irresistible elephant orphanage, the ground zero for the Rothschild’s giraffe, Karen Blixen's former home and so much more. Welcome to one of Africa's most dynamic cities! Credit Karen Uber is most economic way to get around Nairobi, however there is public buses plying the Ngong Road 15-20 min walk from the house. Note smoking is only allowed outside next to the pool, absolutely No smoking indoors. Also Pet Fees is applicable.
