Description

‘Top O' Th Hill Farm’ is nestled on the infamous 'Hill Street', home to ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ characters, Howard, Pearl and Clegg. The grade II listed farm dates back to 1700 and offers an authentic, cosy retreat, steeped in period features and set in 6 acres of woodland and meadows. The farm offers a peaceful location grounding in nature above the sleepy village of Jackson Bridge with outstanding views across the valley and within 2 miles of Holmfirth on the edge of the Peak District. The space The unique farm cottage offers a cosy and quirky environment with its original stone flagged floors, open fireplace, oak beams and contemporary artworks. Ideal location for woodlands and moorland walks, grounding in nature with bush baths or fine dinning near the popular mill town of Holmfirth. The farm offers guests a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in nature with woodlands and meadows to explore. There is an abundance of wildlife with bats, owls, buzzards, kingfishers, deer and butterflies. Equally you can relax in the elements of a woodland bush bath or the French copper bath directly outside the cottage. Dine outside with the bushcraft cooking facilities using an open fire-pit and the wood fired pizza oven. Laze around in the hammocks and watch a movie in the outdoor cinema (please note some facilities are seasonal and by arrangement). In the Winter evenings there is a traditional range with an open fire to warm you and gaze into. Firewood and coal are available on request. We provide plenty of DVDs, board games and Netflix to while away your evenings. The kitchen/diner is equipped with a full sized oven and general cooking facilities including a Kenwood food mixer for bread dough or cake. The ‘Persian Blue Bedroom’ boasts an original Victorian burnished cast iron and brass bed under a high beamed ceiling reaching to the eves; tastefully furnished with a writing desk, wardrobe, imposing chest of draws and unique artworks. The shower room is spacious and airy with large walk in shower, exposed stonework, timbers and greenery. We include all bedding and towels with extra pillows and blankets, Yorkshire tea and coffee. Guest access Guests access the farm ‘Hill Street’ a private lane for residents. The entrance to the cottage is through farm gates and is hidden around the corner in the south facing sunshine. Guests have exclusive use of the whole cottage which includes, living room / kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Guests are more than welcome to wander and explore the 6 acres meadows and woodland to retreat, there is bush baths, hammocks, fire-pit and plenty of places to hide away. Other things to note This is a very authentic cottage with squeaky, sloppy floorboards, worn stone with its patina paintwork, 90s kitchen. This quirky rustic space is not polished but honest and offering those who visit a wealth of opportunity to experience in a beautiful location and setting. On sunny summer days it's perfect location chilling in the hammocks, on wet autumnal nights with its a cosy open fire and by day wellies and fleece in the muddy puddles or snowdrifts. Pets (dogs) are more than welcome as it’s a very dog friendly space and environment. Please read house rules on pets. It's an interesting, bohemian and arty environment with plenty to explore both inside and outside, locally and future afield.
