The space When relocating to Hilton from Zimbabwe in 2003, Gateside Guesthouse took our breath away with its stunning views and victorian charm, typical of the area. It's easy to believe that one has stepped out of Africa in this lush, misty countryside... Gateside is definitely a "character" home, being part of the original "Kings Gap" farm, since subdivided and now with the main Victorian farmhouse next door which dates back to the 1800's. It became our home and 11 years' later, the view still attracts as much as ever; constantly changing with the seasons and different weather patterns (which, in Hilton, is often!) The story goes that Gateside is the oldest Bed & Breakfast still in existence in Hilton. It has a central location but is tucked away in a peaceful cal-de-sac. We are a happy bunch with longstanding staff who welcome you with friendly smiles. Our aim is that everyone should feel at home and comfortable, whether it's business or pleasure. Each of the units comes with the following amenities: panel heaters, electric blankets, hairdryers, hospitality fridge, tea-rays, Dstv commercial bouquet, wireless internet access and fans. Whilst the family units are all fully self-catered, all the doubles and three-sleepers are semi self-catering being provided with microwaves, toasters, crockery and cutlery. Guest access There are information folders giving places of interest, restaurants and activities in the area and there is also a selection of brochures to be found in the hallway of the guesthouse. We have seven restaurants and local village shops within 1km of us and easy access with the N3 highway 2kms away. Pietermaritzburg city center 10kms. For guests who wish to eat in, we offer a delivery dinner service from one of our excellent local caterers: a tray is brought to your room with main course and side dishes and dessert. Orders need to be made 24 hours prior and please let us know of any specific dietary requirements. A choice of either a full health and delicious, traditional English breakfast or a substantial health option is served in the conservatory on the deck of the main house. Open between 7 to 9am Monday to Saturday and 7:30 to 9:30am Sundays. If guests require an early start, please give us 24 hours' notice and we will provide a health breakfast tray to your room. Other conveniences available are a laundry service, brains/barbecues, fax facility and all credit cards are accepted. Children are welcome and they are provided for. Come and enjoy a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting. During your stay Guests are greeted upon arrival as well as departure.
