Description

Once upon a time, there was a valley—and it still is a valley. This is where Asbjørnsen and Moe collected their fairy tales! Stepping onto the farmyard at Nordigard Blessom feels like entering a true Norwegian folk tale—a piece of living history. According to legend, Nordigard Blessom is the oldest farm in Vågå, surrounded by historic and enchanting surroundings. The farm has its own folk tale: “The Giantess and Jehan’s Blessom”? Would you like to hear it? Welcome to the real adventure! The space Living in the Heart of Norwegian Heritage The small house Eldhuset is located in a beautifully restored farmyard from the 18th century—Nordigard Blessom—a traditional and active farm which, according to legend, is the oldest farm in Vågå. The buildings on the farm have been carefully preserved through generations. For its efforts in preserving and restoring these historical buildings, Nordigard Blessom has received the prestigious Olavsrosa award from Norwegian Heritage (Norsk Kulturarv). Nordigard Blessom has been owned by the Blessom family for generations. For over 100 years, the farm has welcomed guests with warm hospitality, delicious food, and a rich storytelling tradition. Vågå has long been a beloved destination for both artists and travelers—including English lords and painters who fell in love with the beautiful timber houses and the majestic landscape. Much of the art on the farm has been gifted by artists who stayed here! During your stay, you will experience the peaceful and charming atmosphere of the countryside, while still being within walking distance of the town center—with the acclaimed restaurant Andre Etasje and the Ullinsvin gallery just nearby. In the summer, you may see sheep grazing on the hills behind the farm—a living reminder that this is still an active and vibrant farm with deep historical roots. Whether you come here to find peace, or to seek inspiration for restoration, photography, exploring the national parks Jotunheimen, Rondane, Breheimen, and Reinheimen, or to use the farm as a base for trips to Galdhøpiggen, Besseggen, Geiranger, or Lom, we warmly welcome you to Nordigard Blessom. Guest access The house has two floors, with a kitchen and a cozy seating area on the ground floor, while the bedroom and bathroom are located upstairs. There is one double bed (180 cm) and an additional single bed (90 cm) – perfect for couples, friends, or families who want to stay together in charming surroundings. Although the house is historic, it offers modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, so you can stay connected if you wish. The bathroom was renovated in 2000, and the kitchen was handcrafted locally a few years ago. Breakfast: A tasteful farm breakfast is included in your stay and is served in the living room on the ground floor. We offer local food – including homemade bread, our own strawberry jam, and local cheese – a guest favorite. You are also welcome to use the outdoor spaces on the farm, including the courtyard and seating areas around the buildings. In season, you can pick berries and fruit or even dig your own potatoes! Just behind the farm, you’ll find great hiking areas, with trails that lead into the forest and offer beautiful views over Vågå and the surrounding landscape. Nordigard Blessom is especially well-suited for those interested in Norwegian heritage, historical architecture, and restoration. The house you’re staying in dates back to the 1800s and was originally a traditional bakehouse (eldhus). It has been restored and adapted to serve as a guesthouse! The atmosphere on the farm invites you to slow down, embrace the peace and quiet, and enjoy the simple life – surrounded by beautiful nature and historic buildings. From the farm, you have a view over Vågå town center. A grocery store, the restaurant Andre Etasje, and the Ullinsvin gallery are all within walking distance – just a few hundred meters away – with a pedestrian path leading directly into town. At Nordigard Blessom, you’ll get a genuine and unique experience – rich in tradition, with animals on the farm and beautifully restored buildings that keep many of our guests coming back again and again. Included in the price: ✔ Bed linen and towels ✔ Unlimited Wi-Fi ✔ Tea and coffee ✔ Simple farm breakfast Other things to note A Living Farm Nordigard Blessom is a working farm with active daily operations – not a typical hotel. Three generations live here together, including four children, and the farm is full of everyday life and authentic rural charm. Among the animals, you’ll find the beautiful and rare Old Norwegian Short Tail sheep (gammalnorsk spelsau), grazing in the lush cultural landscape surrounding the farm. A House with History The main farmhouse dates back to 1779 and has been carefully restored to its original state. That means some things might be a bit different from what you're used to – for example, the doorways are low, so remember to duck! The doors to the rooms are original and cannot be locked, which is part of the historical charm and experience. Personal Hosting We warmly and personally welcome every guest. Check-in takes place right here on the farm – we live here ourselves and always look forward to greeting both new and returning guests. We do our best to keep everything clean and comfortable, but it will never be like a regular hotel. Here, you’re living right in the middle of a vibrant, real-life farm – and that’s exactly the beauty of it. Follow Farm Life Want a glimpse into life on the farm? You can follow us on social media: @nordigard_blessom. We share photos and everyday moments – from cuddly lambs to farm work. If you take pictures or videos during your stay, we’d love it if you tag us – it’s always fun to see the farm through the eyes of our guests. That’s why you can also see us in the TV series New Life in Old Houses, which airs on SVTV, DR2, and NRK. Want to follow the restoration journey on social media? The account is @uleberg_1750.
