Kareedouw HOUSE OF ZANY so Unique come take a peek
Description
In the heart of the Eastern Cape, where Zuuranys and Tsitsi mountains greet, stands a house so unique – you just have to come and take a peek! House of Zany will dispel your bad dreams just like the bark and roots of the Melkhout tree were known to. Bring a coin for the wishing well or ring the bell to your hearts content when you enter into this sanctum situated in the town Kareedouw, dubbed by the Khoi San. Kareedouw is situated on Route 62, offering the scenic alternative to the N2 highway. The space House of Zany is decorated with flamboyance and style, where colors uniquely blend to create a comfortable space where our guests can feel at home. Unwind and relax in front of the handcrafted stone, wood burning fireplace or enjoy a glass of wine on the patio while watching the sun set behind the Zuuranys mountains. The Bohemian and Victorian rooms have a queen-sized bed, and en-suite bathroom (shower only) with toilet and washbasin. The rooms also have built-in cupboards (home made by mom and grandpa) with ample storage space. The showers boast rock walls that were lovingly collected by family and friends from the local riverbed and masterly puzzled together for your enjoyment. No doubt the focal point in the Red room is the four-poster bed, handcrafted by Uncle Kobus from indigenous black wood. This room runs off the kitchen and has it’s own private lounge area with a large cupboard, meticulously crafted by my cousin, Louis. The Sun room is our newest addition to House of Zany. This north facing, sunny room is airy and bright with a queen-sized bed, home-made bedside tables and cupboard on wheels. The Red and Sun rooms share a bathroom with an old cast iron bath and brass taps. House of Zany has an open plan kitchen and living areas. Make meal times a family affair and if you are not the designated cook, relax on the blackwood bench in the kitchen, at the kitchen nook, or the coffee lounge just off the kitchen or even at the dining room table while comfortably keeping the cook company. The kitchen is a focal point in our home and was handcrafted over a December holiday. My brother Zane, has a good eye for rustic wood art, this is evident in the many different pieces of reclaimed wood used in making this kitchen a one of a kind masterpiece. The huge open space around the house allows for free-range kids to enjoy the fresh air and ensures that old & young can enjoy the surrounds – whether it’s sundowners on the patio while lighting the braai fire, or playing ball on the lawn and if you absolutely have to surf the web, we also offer uncapped WiFi. Take a walk around the house and see if you can identify all the trees, wild olive, cork, oak, yellow wood and cypress. We recently planted 27 yellow wood trees on the property to pay homage to this majestic wonder of nature. Guest access It depends on availability. When renting a room in the house you will not be required to share it and depending on the room you would have your own bathroom. There are rooms that would possibly need to share a bathroom with another guest. If you choose to rent all four bedrooms then the entire house is yours. Otherwise, the main living spaces like the Kitchen, Lounge, Fireplace, Dining Room, Kitchen Nook, Braai/Fire area and parking space will be shared. During your stay House of Zany is ideal for a long stay as well as a stopover on your way to other delights this beautiful country has to offer. It’s the perfect size for a family, a couple of friends who are backpacking or the single traveler who does not mind sharing a space. House of Zany offers 4 character filled bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 8 adults. There will be a caretaker available if necessary or if there are any queries.
