The space This historic villa has been lovingly restored into a cozy, character-filled retreat where vintage charm meets soulful living. Tucked into whimsical gardens at the heart of Greenstone Retreat, it’s perfect for families, couples, or friends exploring the West Coast. The villa offers three spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds, a sunlit living area with a large wood burner fireplace, a well-equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with both a bath and shower — ideal for soaking after a day of adventure. You'll also find a collection of books, inviting you to unwind and switch off from screens. 2 rooms have large queen sized beds and a single bed, whilst the 3rd room is a queen bed only. Eco-conscious and guided by organic principles, every detail has been chosen with care — from the environmentally friendly products to the birdsong drifting through the windows. Step outside to wild gardens to store bikes in the bike shed, enticing hammocks, and the scent of nature all around and meet a few of the other guests if you wish to exchange travel stories. The village playground, pub, and shop are just a short walk away. Greenstone Retreat is a space to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy simple pleasures with the people (and pets) you love. You’re welcome to book massage or healing sessions (by appointment), attend yoga or breathwork in the studio (check the schedule), or simply soak up the stillness. Whether you want a base for adventure or deep rest, Greenstone Retreat meets you where you are. Guest access The villa is entirely yours as a private holiday home. At the back is a shared outdoor kitchen, BBQ area, two family rooms, extra bathrooms, a large garden with games and hammocks, and a small campground — often filled with warm, like-minded travellers and the occasional visit from our two friendly spaniels. On arrival contact the retreat by phone or Whats app as there is no reception building. Other things to note No supermarket or ATM in Kumara — please stock up before you arrive (milk, food, cash, etc). Cash is needed for treatments, classes and food extras from the little shop or nearby baking stall. The petrol station in Kumara is currently NZ card only and has only diesel while they upgrade the site. Free-range eggs, veges, and basics often available onsite for purchase. Pets by prior arrangement only (not fenced, must be supervised and kept off furniture). This is a shared property — other guests may be camping or using the family rooms and outdoor kitchen. Many guests love meeting each other in the gardens and around the BBQ. TV-free zone to enhance your experience. The Wi-Fi is excellent throughout.
