Lovely wall and floor tiles, plants, ceiling fans, antiques, paintings. Outside spaces: terrace with table and chairs, two balconies overlooking the street. Central, quiet, spacious, peaceful. Wi-fi. NO CHILDREN UNDER AGE 12. The space ELEGANT TOWNHOUSE Bombarda House is an elegant bourgeois townhouse constructed in the late 18th century, some years after the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 which devastated most of the Algarve. Recently the house was skillfully restored with an eye to conserving the original architectural details while also conforming to Portuguese building regulations, amongst the strictest and most modern of Europe. Located in the historic center of Tavira on a quiet street, the house is 3 minutes’ walk from the central square and Roman bridge, and 10 minutes’ walk to the ferry to the beach on the Island of Tavira. Both the train station and the bus station are within easy walking distance, so reaching the house without a car is no problem. There is a good shuttle service that will bring you from Faro airport to the door. The advantages of being in the centre of town are many: older children can roam around town by themselves, and adults can enjoy their wine in the riverside restaurants and cafés without worrying about driving home. This is an elegant two-story house of 110m2, with tall ceilings, beech floors, 2 bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed, the other with twin beds, sleeping 4 in total), a large sunny covered veranda, an open-air terrace for meals outside, 2 balconies, kitchen, large living / dining room, 1 bathroom, and a charming copa. What is a copa? It’s the Portuguese name for a tiny room giving onto the street and located over the central stairway. Its traditional function was to light the stairs, and also to provide the old women of the family with a snug place where they could keep an eye on the street, gossip about what they saw, and sew in the good light. Now the copa has a desk and chair, for working or writing at the ‘helm’ of the house. The furniture and decoration are pretty, and in keeping with the age and style of the house. Paintings, mirrors, plants, ceiling fans and some antique furniture give the place a gracious and old-fashioned air. The distribution of the rooms is the original, as are most of the doors and windows, and those tiles and other features that could be salvaged. Guest access You have access to everything described above. Other things to note We don't accept children under 12 years. The maximum number of guests permitted is 4. Registration Details 557/AL
