Welcome to the Wolf Den! The most charming little getaway on Big Creek. This getaway features large picture windows that look out to Big Creek. The getaway features a queen size bed with a memory foam mattress. It has a full kitchen and a bathroom with a shower. It has two decks. This is the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking on the mountain or just a quick weekend getaway! Let Big Creek become your favorite getaway! The getaway is located within 4 miles of the Nisqually Entrance to Mount Rainier. The getaway is located on our property very close to our home. Even though the getaway is close to our home there is lots of privacy, including your own driveway. The entire getaway is yours to use. We try not to disturb our guests, but should the need arise we do live right next door. Our Getaway is located within the Paradise Estates Community. There is little traffic and a nice community park complete with a little lake to take a dip in on hot summer days. There are also hiking trails within walking distance. Getting around Activities Mount Rainier - Our Getaway is located minutes from the Southwest entrance of Mount Rainier. You will enter the park at the Nisqually entrance which is the only year round entrance for vehicle traffic into the park. Once inside the gate you will have access to Longmire and Paradise areas of the park. Longmire is located 6.5 miles from the park entrance; it is a National Historic District and the location of the National Park Inn, Longmire Museum and Wilderness Information Center. At Paradise you will find the Visitor Center and the Paradise Inn. CROSS COUNTRY SKIING & SNOW SHOEING Our getaway is located within minutes to some of the best cross country skiing areas. Mount Rainier National park is a great place to ski as well as the Mount Tahoma Trail System; for more information refer to the Mount Tahoma Trail System web site. Whittaker Mountaineering in Ashford rents and sells climbing/hiking gear, snow sports equipment, and sleds and tubes. FISHING, SWIMMING and BOATING Holiday Lake: For guests staying at our getaway you can enjoy access to this small neighborhood lake which offers swimming including a floating dock, a picnic area, play area and fishing from the shore. Mineral Lake: Located about 20 minutes SE of Ashford off Hwy 7, Mineral Lake is stocked with trout annually, and you can rent everything you need for a day on the water at the Mineral Lake Resort, including fishing poles, bait & tackle, row boats, and pontoon boat’s. Alder Lake: Also a 20 minute drive from Ashford is Alder Lake, situated about midway between Eatonville and Elbe. This large lake has 2 boat ramps, a swimming beach, picnic area, playground, and is a great place for outdoor summer recreation. HIKING Hikers can enjoy trails for all experience levels within Mount Rainier National Park and outside the park. MOUNTAIN BIKING For those who enjoy mountain biking check out Osborn Mountain. You can find information on Trailforks website. Please note bikes are not allowed on any of the trails within Mount Rainier National Park. Bikes must remain on paved roads. WATERFALLS Waterfalls abound including Chinook Creek Falls, Comet Falls, Margaret Falls and Spray Falls. AREA ACTIVITIES FOR VISITORS OF ALL AGES Northwest Trek Wildlife Park in Eatonville, WA, visitors enjoy a premier wildlife adventure center including a tram ride, hiking trails, and zip line. A great family experience. Mt. Rainier Railroad in Elbe, WA, passengers enjoy steam train rides through the forest and across the glacial fed Upper Nisqually River to a museum located in Mineral, Washington. EZ Times Guided Trail Rides in Ashford, WA offers horseback trail rides for adults and kids. Ex-Nihilo Iron Sculpture Park located between Elbe and Ashford, WA. Ex-Nihilo means something created from out of nothing in Latin. Check out the amazing recycled spirits of iron. Rainier Valley Restaurant & Inn Rainier Valley Restaurant and Inn is a Family oriented establishment. Families are welcome. National Park Inn The intrepid vacationer can explore more than the wilderness with Mount Rainier National Park’s exquisite dining options. The dining rooms of Paradise Inn and National Park Inn offer signature dishes with a variety of American favorites. Ashford does have two convenience stores with a very limited selection. We provide coffee, tea, cream, some spices and oil. This is rural living at it's best and as a result there can be power outages and inclement weather. We do not refund for early departures. WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING? • Groceries – Stock up before you arrive as the small stores in and around Ashford have a limited selection of goods. Don’t forget condiments, and burgers or steaks for the grill. Also bring whatever adult beverages you enjoy as you can only purchase beer and wine in Ashford. • Gasoline – again, fill up before you get here. Hours can be limited at the gas station in Ashford. • DVD’s. • Specialty kitchen gadgets – Please bring any specialty kitchen items. We keep our kitchens fully stocked with the basics plus cutting boards, knives, cheese graters, etc., but do not stock specialty small appliances. • Personal toiletries – including shampoo. Shower gel is provided. • Clothing – layers, rain jacket, comfortable shoes, hat, sunglasses. • For hikers – daypack, water bottles, hiking boots, compass, binoculars. • Outfitters store is close by in case you forget something. • Good books. • Maps. • Wildflower and Tree ID books. • Absolutely no smoking! • No bonfires, campfires, fire pits, etc. allowed on the premises. The risk of a forest fire is too high. • No firearms of any kind are allowed to be discharged on the property.
