Let this be your home away from home. Large, open, and upscale, with a cozy mix of comfort & nostalgia. Enjoy time with family and friends in our spacious, welcoming home on 40 beautiful acres - surrounded by fields, orchards, woods, stone walls, and large pond with kayaks & paddle boards. Great for family vacations, reunions, retreats, & celebrations. Weddings welcome - contact owner for details. Pet friendly. Close to RI beaches. 5 min. to I-95. 35 min. to Providence airport. 4 night minimum. A unique attractively decorated home perfect for families. The house has two unique sides (one from the 18th century, one from the 20th), connected by a large, friendly, well-equipped kitchen and dining area. Each side has its own master suite with attached bath, plus additional bedrooms, full baths, & sofa beds in the common areas. In addition, there is a small detached one room "cabin" (also called the "hobbit house") with two single beds. In total there are 7 bedrooms, 3 extra sofa beds, 5 baths, and can sleep up to 16 adults. If your group has small children, we can set up additional single beds, portacribs, or Pack-n-Play as needed. Rental includes all linens, towels, bathroom amenities, and basic starter supplies in the kitchen (e.g., coffee, tea, cooking oil, etc.) Common areas in the modern side include a large welcoming entry filled with white wicker and futon couch, large living room with fireplace, formal dining room, family room with fireplace and smart TV, and sunroom with wall to wall sliding glass doors to the outside. Common areas in the quaint 18th century side include a living room a flat screen TV and DVD player, family room with fireplace, and a small 2nd kitchen. There are air conditioners in all bedrooms and some common areas. Washer and dryer are available for guest use. There is also a large toy box for the little ones, as well as cards and board games for older guests. In the shed you will find supplies for outdoor activities, games, and water sports. Guests have full access to the entire house and all outside areas including: wood deck off kitchen with gas BBQ, balcony off master bedroom, and brick patio overlooking yard, fields, and path down to the pond. Next to the pond there is another wooden deck with picnic tables and chairs. Available for guest use are three kayaks, beach umbrella, and summer yard games like volley ball, badminton, lawn darts, & croquet, plus balls and portable soccer goals. Private and NOT for guest use is an 18th century barn (locked and boarded). Owner is not on the premises. Guests will be met by my property manager who will introduce them to the house and grounds, offer recommendations for things to do in the area, and be available by text/phone to solve any problems that may arise. A detailed Guest Manual is available for reference and inspiration. There is also a detailed Safety Information sheet and a handout with info on area hospitals, pharmacies, and urgent care centers. In the event of severe storms or other weather events, the property manager may choose to check on the property grounds and house basements to ensure everything is still in working order and take care of any clean-up that may be necessary. She will text the booking guest at least one hour in advance of her arrival on the property. There is a back-up generator in the event of a loss of power due to a storm. The property manager will take care of getting that set up if needed. Our home is situated on 40 acres in rural historic Washington County (locally known as "South County") and close to Westerly. It is connected by country roads and nearby I-95 to many diverse attractions and venues for family activities. Some fun spots that are only 15-20 minutes away include: (a) Rhode Island beaches, including Misquamicut - popular public beach with guest pavilion and half mile of white sand; (b) Mystic Seaport and Aquarium; (c) Westerly's Watch Hill with its small scenic harbor, beaches, and world famous carousel; (d) Foxwoods Resort Casino; (e) award winning interactive Pequot Museum; (f) Stonington Borough with its eclectic mix of antique stores, galleries, and boutiques; and (g) Narragansett Pier with fishing and ferry to historic Block Island. Nearby Westerly has many fine restaurants and its central Wilcox Park hosts frequent special events like art shows, concerts, and evening plays. For a special evening out, guests might consider a dinner at the historic Ocean House in Watch Hill or the newly restored and popular Weekapaug Inn. Newport with its jazz festival and historic mansions is a scenic 45 mile drive. Many additional spots for kayaking in nearby ponds. Hiking and biking trails are also close and easily accessed. There are at least four 18-hole golf courses open to the public within a 10-minute drive. Small shopping needs can be met locally in the Ashaway convenience and liquor stores (5-minute drive). Ashaway also hosts three restaurants (one specializing in pizza), as well as a mini-golf course and driving range. Larger shopping needs are 15 minutes away at either Westerly or Hope Valley. Grocery and liquor stores will deliver to the door. Our home is easily reached from I-95, Rhode Island Exit 1 if coming from the south and Exit 2 if coming from the north. It is 35 minutes by car from T.F. Green Airport in Providence, 1.5 hours south of Boston, and 2.5 hours north of New York City. Daily trains from Grand Central Station will reach the Westerly Train Station in 2 hours. Guests arriving by train can be met by the property manager or representatives of Enterprise car rental if needed. Our historic home and its grounds have all the advantages and some of the disadvantages of being situated in the middle of 40 rural acres. Advantages include separation from the noise and disruptions of city life; serene and spacious fields for walking and playing; water activities in the onsite pond/lake, frequent glimpses of diverse wildlife (deer, beaver, rabbits, etc.); and picturesque flocks of waterfowl (ducks and geese). Not so desirable are the occasional appearances of spiders, ants, ticks, and mice who share our property. Although we do everything possible to minimize the appearance of these pests, as well as thoroughly clean the living spaces and treat the grounds to remove any sign of their presence, we cannot totally ensure that they will not make an appearance during your visit. If you feel these aspects of rural living will prevent you from enjoying our property, we urge you to choose a different location for your vacation. Dogs are allowed upon approval of the property owner and payment of $100 pet fee per dog. Please contact the owner for a copy of our pet guidelines. Events are allowed with advanced approval and discussion with the owner. Please send inquiry with details of the event you would like to host.
