Hartebeesfontein Guest Farmhouse

Description

This is the perfect place to allow the tranquillity of the Karoo to envelop you – on the veranda in summer or by the fireplace in winter. Escape for a weekend getaway or short break and experience authentic farm-style living, fresh air, open spaces, epic sunsets and star-filled night skies. It is also the ideal stopover en route to or from your favourite holiday destination, as it is centrally located between Gauteng and most popular coastal destinations. The space This is a working farm where a variety of game are raised and Merino sheep, known for their quality wool and mutton, have been the lifeblood of the farm for generations. The original farmhouse was built in 1954 and offers spacious living areas, including a lounge, dining room, TV room, bar area and a wide veranda with braai facilities overlooking the swimming pool and vast lawn. There are five large, comfortable bedrooms - one offers an en-suite bathroom while the other bedrooms share two private bathrooms. All the bathrooms have both a shower and a bath. There is also one guest toilet. The kitchen features additional dining areas and is well-equipped for self-catering. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire farmhouse, except for a separate wing of the house where the farm owner and host will reside. Only the kitchen area will be shared. Guests are welcome to lounge next to the pool or to go for walks or bike rides on the farm. Game drives and viewing of other farming operations can be arranged with the host. During your stay Available on phone or email Other things to note The farm is situated within an extremely safe farming community and the area has some of the lowest crime rates in the country. Ample parking is available at the main entrance to the farmhouse. The nearest towns are Philippolis (25 km away following the R717/Donkerpoort Road) and Gariep Dam (25 km following Donkerpoort Road just off the N1). Philippolis is the oldest settlement in the Free State province and known as the ‘Gateway to the Karoo’. Gariep Dam is a settlement on the northern banks of the Orange River next to the dam wall of the Gariep Dam, the largest dam in South Africa. Both these towns offer a variety of attractions. Donkerpoort Road is a gravel road, but it is wide and well-maintained.
