Up On Stilts in OBX – Allergy Free, Eco-Friendly
Description
Welcome to our beach house, south of Avalon Pier, between the ocean & the sound, close to both. Coffee (Front Porch Cafe'), or stronger (Chip's Wine & Beer - no cigars: we've a smoke-free listing), is two blocks up. There's a full kitchen but remember: You didn't come here to cook! Go out to one of the many restaurants. Then work off your meal on the multi-use path by the sound. Or head to the beach, four blocks away. Choose from the plethora of things to do, or just enjoy relaxing as our guest! The space If the pictures don't say it all: Off street parking, under roof if you wish, so your cars stay cool; plenty of room to park a [boat, motorcycle, etc.] trailer. Shaded, lighted area/patio to use charcoal grill (available if requested when booking). Partially fenced backyard, fun for Frisbee or croquet (set available if requested when booking). Roofed front porch; back porch great for a sunning deck or to watch the sun set. Spacious kitchen/dining/living area. Ceiling fans, central AC/heat & wifi throughout. One en-suite bath with therapy tub, one bath with shower, one hot/cold outdoor shower. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, space to unpack, and a wall-mounted VIZIO TV for streaming your network; there is no cable or satellite. There is one VIZIO remote and one Amazon fire TV stick with remote available per bedroom; use your own [cord and] adapter. Further, there is a Roku smart TV in the living area with its remote. Finally, there's one separate, older Roku streaming device and remote that can be used; no guarantee! Note: If you do not know how to use these devices, please consult the internet experts rather than your hosts, who typically stream on their computer and are not very tech-saavy! Please put all the wires and stuff back where you found them so the next guests won't have to sort them out. Thank you. Guest access Up on Stilts really is centrally located: Without driving, you can get to many places close by. To name just a few within a mile radius: Truist Bank is 0.3 miles away. RC Kill Devil Hills Movies 0.4 miles. Target (with a CVS, grocery section and Starbucks ) and WaWa 0.4 miles. Circle K Convenience Store 0.5 miles. Front Porch Cafe 0.6 miles. La Mexicana Minimart 0.6 miles. Food Lion 0.6 miles. The Jolly Roger 0.6 miles. Avalon Pier 0.7 miles. Awful Arthur's Oyster Bar 0.7 miles. Chili Peppers Costal Grill 0.9 miles. Wells Fargo Bank 0.9 miles. Publix Supermarket 0.9 miles. Bay Drive (multi-use path along the sound) 0.9 miles. Of course, if you'd rather, go ahead and drive! Most places have ample parking. FYI: You will need to drive to get your ice cream, sorry. However, among Kitty Hawk, KDH, & Nags Head, there are plenty of places; enter "ice cream shops in KDH NC" into a search engine and over a dozen places pop up! Being centrally located, Up on Stilts, although separated by the service road, does face 158, which does have traffic. Typically, if we have visiting friends who are light sleepers, we either put them up in the back bedroom or, if they prefer the master, suggest they access a white noise app on their phone, or turn on a fan. As Airbnb hosts, we have done our best at soundproofing the master bedroom to absorb noise energy: applied acoustical caulking, enhanced window treatments, adjusted furniture, employed wall hangings, and softened the floor. We want all of our guests to enjoy staying in our space. Other things to note To learn more about "the plethora of things to do" than we can tell you, on the web, go to: Contact Us - The Outer Banks. This is a safe site sponsored by the Official Tourism Authority for Dare County’s Outer Banks. Their statement: "For complete vacation or visitor information on the Outer Banks and the Dare County area (Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Roanoke Island, Hatteras Island, Dare Mainland), please use the following contact information. Or, feel free to stop by one of our four welcome centers and receive personal assistance. Our visitor specialists are there to serve you!" You can't miss with this great site. :) To be perfectly transparent with our amenities (drop down menus not necessarily applicable): - We don't provide charcoal for the grill; when you book, you need to request to have access to it as leaving it out in the salt air causes it to rust. - The dining table is either the bar at the kitchen island, or a card table with four folding chairs. - The dedicated workspace is setting up the card table wherever suits you best and the office chair is a folding chair. - The body soap, shampoo and conditioner are travel size in case you forgot yours, and are of no particular brand; may even be generic. (Please leave empties on site as, in keeping with our eco-friendly efforts, we can sanatize and refill these single-use plastic containers.) - The drying rack for clothing is actually an indoor clothesline in the ensuite bathroom; there is also a line outside in the parking area. - Exercise equipment, which guests use at their own risk and are responsible for disinfecting [with a spray and microfiber cloths provided], includes: four yoga mats, three resistance bands (two red, one blue), two "Skip-its" (great for balance and cardio - not just for kids!), two 3-pound dumbells, one [old-fashioned] ab roller, one multi-use, over the door pull up bar, and one well-loved jump rope! - The games are not necessarily board games and include: cards (four standard decks, Phase 10, We Didn't Play Test This Either, Zigity), a copy of "150 Ways to Play Solitaire", Scrabble, two cribbage sets, one checkers set, and one set of dominoes. There are also puzzles: four jigsaw, one Rombix (16 piece geometry puzzle), one Binary Arts/Think Fun Brick by Brick (5-piece brainteaser), and a few puzzle/brainteaser books. - The freezer is at the bottom of the refrigerator, which is French door style. As with the refrigerator, we leave the right side empty, except for icecube trays, for guest use. There are also a couple of ice packs to borrow if you like to take a small/drinks cooler down to the beach; if you forgot yours, there is one to borrow on-site. - The toaster is a toaster oven. - The hammock is a single person, camping/parachute-style that you put up on your own; works great in the carport area. - The patio or balcony is a front porch and a back porch, each with the patio furniture aka know as two chairs. If you use our chair pads on them, do so when you won't stain them with sunscreen, etc., and please return them to the closet.
