This large cabin is built with sweeping views, greatroom and large, fully equipped kitchen. Close to hiking, mountain biking, xc skiing trails, fishing, boating, paddle boarding, kayaking. Short driving distance to ski areas, rafting, hot springs, & horseback. 40-minute drive to Aspen in the summer. 1st Floor - Open living, dining and fully-equipped kitchen in great room style room. Also on this floor is a laundry room with a desk and the primary bedroom with a King bed with bathroom (sink, walk-in shower, toilet). 2nd Floor - 3 family-style bedrooms with high ceilings + family bathroom. Bathroom - includes 2 sinks, clawfoot tub/shower, and separate toilet. Yellow Bedroom 1 - King bed + kids bunk beds Purple Bedroom 2 - King bed with ample space on the carpeted floor for sleeping bags. Blue Bedroom 3 - Queen bed + Double Bed, includes nearly hidden cubby playroom. 3rd Floor - Loft Cupola room - accessed by a library-style ladder. Includes fold-down twin-size futon. Perfect for older kids or adults. This room has wrap-around windows and a small desk. Great place to gaze at stars, see wildlife or enjoy a happy hour drink. Wrap-around deck with colorful Adirondack chairs, and view of mountain and lake and reading nooks. A kids' swing is just off the deck and a play fort is uphill from the cabin. Guests will have access to the vacation house, deck and property. They will not have access to one small storage closet (off lower primary bedroom) and the garage. Our vacation home is stocked with supplies, paper products wood, etc. Located in a small town with little services, at 10,000 feet, guests will need to be self-sufficient and bring all their own food and other supplies or be able to drive 35 minutes to the larger town of Leadville, or Buena Vista, Colorado. We do have a local host located in Leadville, should there be an emergency need. Medical services are located in the larger towns mentioned. Our Colorado vacation home is in the small town of Twin Lakes Colorado (off Hwy 82) and sits on 7 acres of property located on a hill above town. The town is close by, but the cabin has a feeling of being removed as it sits alone up on the hill with a view of the lake and mountains from the wrap-around deck. You may walk down to the lake in about 15 minutes through aspen and meadow. Twin Lakes is quiet year around with about 20 or so full-time residents living right in town. It is common to only see a couple of people a day in the offseason, more in the summer. There is a small old-fashioned general store with limited supplies and snacks — and another business that rents kayaks/bikes. There is also a historic inn that operates a restaurant serving lunch and dinner (summer only). You may link up with hiking/mountain biking trails right from the cabin (with access the Colorado trail). The cabin is located just off of highway 82 (about 1/4 mile) - with the closest larger towns, Leadville and Buena Vista, about 35 minutes away. Best to buy groceries in one of these towns on your way driving to the cabin. There are several rafting outfitters in Buena Vista located about 35 minutes away. Trips offered from beginners to thrill seekers. Mt. Princeton Hotsprings is about 45 minutes away with natural hot spring pools, swimming pool and water slide. Parts of this facility are open year-round. Horseback riding is also located in this area. Skiing nearby: Ski Cooper - 40 min drive, affordable family-focused resort, offering lessons and rentals, variety of terrain. You may also heli-ski for the day, or cross country ski on their trails. Copper Mountain - (1 hr drive) the largest nearby resort with 23 high-speed chairs! Monarch - 1 hr drive, great for a variety of steep terrain with great guest services. Hiking: Situated in the midst of Colorado’s Sawatch Range, the dual CDT Gateway Community of Leadville and Twin Lakes is surrounded by mountains with summits above 14,000 feet — known locally as “14ers.” There are 15 such mountains within an hour’s drive from the two towns. Hike along the lake on a scenic 4.6 mile out and back trail to reach the historic resort of Interlaken. Restored by the historical society, this site includes historical signage and you may tour the main house and walk around the outbuildings. Accessible only by hiking or boat, this resort is an interesting day adventure. Sit on the porch or beach and enjoy your lunch. Twin Lakes General Store operates in the summer offering interesting souvenirs, T-shirts/hats, trail maps, and gifts along with an assortment of snacks, soda and beer, wine and spirits.
