Sunila Vintage Apartment In Sunila, in the residential area designed by Alvar and Aino Aalto, in the workers' house Mäntylä, completed in 1937, a unique vintage retreat of the collector, furnished and decorated in the spirit of Alvar and Aino Aalto and the 30s and 50s. You can admire the design and art in the apartment. You will have access to Artek's vintage furniture, Arabian vintage dishes, organic textiles and an architecture and design library. A cozy and warm atmosphere will take you on a journey through time! The space The apartment is located in the Sunila area designed by architect Alvar Aalto. The apartment, completed in 1937, is located in a building whose apartments were originally intended for the workers of Sunila Oy's cellulose factory. The apartment was renovated in 2019. The renovation has been done with the intention to respect the history of the area, so the renovation has been done largely as before: linoleum (which was the original floor material) has been chosen for the floors, the walls and ceilings have been painted with lime paint, the original doors of the intermediate and cabinet doors have been cleaned, the cabinets have been painted inside. Almost the original kitchen cabinets have been painted and some of the cabinets have been made according to the old model. The apartment is perfectly furnished with Artek's vintage furniture. The dining area has Arabian Kilta series and Aino Aalto dishes, Sorsakoski cutlery. The apartment's textiles are cotton, linen and wool. The floors have old funkis carpets from the 1930s-1950s. Artek's vintage layer beds have coconut wool futon mattresses and wool pillows with bedding mattresses. The linen towels used by the guest have been made by a local craftsman specifically for this apartment. The art and decorative items in the apartment have been selected to fit the apartment. There's no TV in the apartment. It is replaced by a comprehensive selection of architectural and design literature that guests can explore. And from the living room window, you can admire the majestic large pine tree. This apartment has been renovated and decorated with respect to the history of Sunila and the life's work of Alvar and Aino Aalto. Experience time travel and the 1930s-1950s and vintage Artek style in this collector's rare apartment! The apartment has been featured in numerous interior design and period magazines, including internationally. Guest access There is a parking space for a car in the yard. Other things to note The apartment comfortably sleeps two people. There's a bed for a third person.
