Only a few miles away you will find the historic Birdoswald Roman Fort where you can walk the longest remaining stretch of Hadrian’s Wall and see the ruins of the fort. Only a short drive in any direction can take you into Northumberland, over the border into Scotland and of course the Lake District National Park where you can scale one of England’s highest mountains or sail on one of its deepest lakes!
