Bellas Mouse is a characterful and charming 3 bedroom cottage with garage parking. Found in the old heart of Penryn, one of the most ancient boroughs of Cornwall just a mile from Falmouth. This vibrant historic waterside town has a range of pubs and eateries including a great fish and chip shop. The property is in a conservation area and on a quiet no through lane with only vehicles from two houses passing by. Enter through a gate in the wall into a private courtyard with stable doors into the cottage. The main cottage is delightfully quirky and it will take you a bit of time to get your bearings! The two main reception rooms and the two main bedrooms are dual aspect and the exterior doors are all partly or fully glazed. This allows for the light to make the most of the cottage's character and shows off the thick and curving walls typical of a property of this era. This includes low door frames upon which you may bang your head. The main sitting room has a wood burning stove, sofa seating for 6 and additional seating for 2/3, with doors into the dining room and down into the second sitting room with seating for 5/6. The dining room has an extendable table that seats 8 comfortably. The kitchen leads out into a little walkway courtyard with steps up to the garden. From the dining room there are steps up to the stairs and down to a cloakroom and a utility room with a door out to the garden. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with a superking bed, a triple room with a double bed plus a single bed and a single bedroom and the family bathroom which has a powerful shower over the bath. If you need a travel cot, let us know as there is one available. The garden is lovely and private with water views and glimpses over the Falmouth estuary. There's a BBQ and table that seats 6 comfortably. All bedding and towels are provided and laundered professionally and the house is looked after by our housekeeper. ACCESSIBILITY NOTE Bellas Mouse is an old property built on different levels. It has many original features, including low narrow doorways and passages. There are small steps into some of the downstairs living rooms and bedrooms. The stairs to the bedrooms are quite steep but there is a hand rail. Feedback from some guests have cautioned that for anyone with depth perception problems, or for the older generations in general, the stairs and steps can be disconcerting. The back garden is quirky, quite small and terraced with changes of level and there are steps to access it from the cottage. Shute Lane is typically Cornish; steep and narrow thus making access to the cottage and garage tricky in places. For these reasons we do not recommend the property to guests with restricted mobility or those with younger children. PARKING There is a garage for parking close to the cottage and a second small car can fit in front of the garage doors. It can take a large car up to 5063mm long. An Audi Q7 just fits as does a BMW 5 Series Estate. Further parking is on Helston or Station road or some guests use the long stay car park on Commercial Road which is about 400 meters from the cottage. It is free to use Monday - Saturday 4pm - 9am and all day Sunday and is very reasonably priced outside of these times. Charges are by the hour, 24 hrs or weekly and payment can be made by mobile phone. Additionally, just a short walk away behind the Spar convenience store there is Permarin Car Park which is free 24/7. If you are bringing an electric car and require charging facilities, please let us know so we can provide information on local charging points and rates for charging in the garage. Bellas Mouse is just a few minutes walk from the train station for those on public transport. We really appreciate our neighbours. If you are likely to party or disturb the neighbours then with the greatest respect this is not the holiday house for you ! Guests are not disturbed and the cottage is all yours during your stay. Other things to note DOGS Well behaved dogs (2 max) are welcome but no puppies, unless crated when left on their own. We charge £25 per week for each dog. Any damage caused by the dogs will have to be paid for. Owners who do not clean up after their pets won’t be welcome again. BABIES & YOUNG CHILDREN A travel cot is available on request. Guests with young children should be aware that there are no stair gates and the garden is terraced with steps.
