Description
Clean and private 10x16 camping cabin on 34 acres just off highway 118. Fifteen minutes from Big Bend National Park entrance. Tranquil setting that features 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, easy access, Dark Sky designation, a large fire pit and sweet solitude. Just far enough from Terlingua to avoid the heavy crowds, but close enough for convenience. There is a small store (Little Burro) less than a mile from the cabin that many locals use. The space WE'RE BACK AFTER TWO YEARS OF WORKING OUT OF STATE, AND WE'RE READY TO ROCK! No hassles. Just rest and relaxation on your private 34 acres after a long day of exploring Big Bend. Wash the day's sweat off in the cool-water outdoor shower and throw some grub on the grill. Stare at the brightest stars you've ever seen while sitting next to the fire pit with your favorite after dinner delights. Contemplate tomorrow's adventures, then sleep on a comfortable bed. Hiker Hideout has a two-burner propane cook stove inside, a dining table with two chairs, and a queen-size bed with comfortable coil-spring mattress. There is also a propane wall heater that can be utilized to take the chill off. Outside there is a picnic table, bench, cool-water outdoor shower with an attached dish-washing sink, charcoal grill and fire pit. You'll find some basic cookware, along with a few dishes and utensils for basic meal preparation. We supply all propane. A simple compost toilet is located in a separate indoor space attached to the outside of the cabin. We supply toilet paper, wood shavings and hand sanitizer. No electricity, air conditioning, phone, television, or Wi-Fi. This is a simple sanctuary for those that enjoy camping. Think of the cabin as a hard-shell tent that's already set up, doesn't leak, and doesn't flap in the West Texas wind. Guests should plan on bringing everything they would normally take on a camping trip, including drinking water, sleeping bag or blankets, pillows, towels, coolers, lights, toiletries, etc. Bring a telescope if you have one -- the night sky will knock your socks off. Guest access Guests of the cabin get the entire 34 acres to themselves. There is a loft in the cabin with plenty of room to stow gear. The Little Burro Country Store is less than a mile away with groceries, ice, firewood, beer, and WiFi. Other things to note The ladder and loft may be unsafe for small children. The driveway to the cabin is composed primarily of bentonite clay, making it impassable during the rare heavy rain that may occur. Although the cabin is visible from highway 118 during the day, it can be difficult to locate in the dark. We STRONGLY encourage guests to arrive during daylight hours. Seriously, it's dark out here. Cell phone service and vehicle navigation are unreliable in this area, so you should plan on writing down directions before leaving town. If you do get turned around, go to the nearest signal and call us. We will be happy to guide you. FAQ: How do I use the compost toilet? - Use the compost toilet exactly like you would use your toilet at home, but instead of flushing you will add a handful or two of pine shavings. Do I need to separate urine when using the compost toilet? - No. The composting system we use does NOT require urine separation. The nutrients in urine are a valued part of the fertilizer that our compost eventually becomes. Do I need to empty my compost toilet? -No. We will empty and clean your toilet after you check out. If you have an extended stay, let us know when the toilet is getting full so we can exchange it and provide additional pine shavings.
