Enjoy a Scenic Train Journey (Nagoya – Ena – Matsumoto) Nagoya, Ena, and Matsumoto are connected by the JR Chūō Main Line, making this area ideal for travelers who enjoy exploring Japan by train. If you are using a Japan Rail Pass, limited express surcharges are covered, so you can also ride the Limited Express “Shinano”, which is part of the travel experience itself. Nagoya → Ena Between Nagoya and Ena, local and rapid trains run about once every 30 minutes during the morning and evening hours. This section of the line is used daily by commuters and is generally easy to access. In contrast, the Limited Express “Shinano” runs less frequently and does not operate every 30 minutes. However, with a bit of planning, it offers a very comfortable and enjoyable way to travel. Example: Nagoya 13:00 → Ena 13:41 (Limited Express Shinano No. 13) After arriving at Ena Station, you can store your luggage in station lockers and enjoy nearby sights such as: A walk through Ōi-juku, a former post town on the historic Nakasendō Trail The Hiroshige Museum of Art (about 280 meters from Ena Station), where you can view ukiyo-e prints depicting old post towns along the Nakasendō Ena → Matsumoto (Possible as a Day Trip) From Ena to Matsumoto, travel by the Limited Express “Shinano.” Although the number of trains is limited, a day trip to Matsumoto is possible with proper scheduling. Example: Ena 8:42 → Matsumoto 10:05 (Limited Express Shinano No. 3) In Matsumoto: Remnants of the old castle town can be found around Matsumoto Castle. While the entire city is not preserved as a historic castle town, you can still feel traces of history around the castle area, including Nakamachi Street and Nawate Street. Visit Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s most famous and best-preserved original castles. For the return trip: Take the Limited Express “Shinano” departing Matsumoto between around 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, Enjoy scenic views of the Kiso Valley and surrounding mountains from the train windows on the way back to Ena. For example, even if you take the 17:52 departure from Matsumoto, you can return to this Airbnb before 8:00 PM. Easy Travel After Check-out Train travel is also convenient on your check-out day. Example: Ena 8:30 → Nagoya 9:18 From Nagoya, you can continue smoothly to destinations such as: Toyota Automobile Museum Kyoto Takayama Hakone Tokyo Guest access ✨ Guest Access (Short Version) Entire Zen Dome House & garden – private use. We always take a moment to greet one another in person before handing over the key. Guests have full access to the interior of the dome-shaped building. The outdoor meditation area may also be used—please let the host know in advance if you’d like to do so. There is a neighboring rental home on the property where a local resident lives. To respect their privacy, we kindly ask that guests do not enter that area. However, the unusual shape of the surrounding buildings often sparks curiosity. If you’d like to explore more, feel free to ask—we’d be happy to guide you. There’s also a nostalgic hand-pumped shared well on site, which we’ll gladly introduce to interested guests. To preserve the quiet atmosphere, we ask that outdoor conversations and sounds remain gentle and respectful.
