The Barn Square Island, peaceful and pet friendly.
Description
Square Island is a peaceful, rural location adjacent to a small farm with Pembroke town and several outstanding beaches just a short drive away. The Barn is a converted donkey stable, with traditional lime plaster walls and upcycled timber giving it a rustic feel. The courtyard is gated and secure for pets, perfect for drinks and BBQ in the summer. No children under 12 due to fire safety regs for the sleeping mezzanines. We may be able to accept same day bookings, please message to enquire. The space Peaceful, rural property up a private lane adjacent to a small farm with some cows. We live in the adjoining house and keep chickens in the garden. The Barn is suitable for families with older children, couples and small groups of up to 4 adults. We are more than happy for guests to bring their pets free of charge. Layout and sleeping arrangements. There are 2 main rooms with sleeping mezzanines above, each with ladder access. The one above the sitting room has 2 single beds, the other above the bathroom has a double bed. There is a single sofa bed in the sitting room with separate bedding provided for guests with mobility issues. Guest safety on the mezzanines. The ladders are unsuitable for children under 12 or anyone with impaired mobility. Children must be confident sleeping on their own, should be able to use the ladder unsupervised, and in the event of an emergency deploy and use the velux fire ladder independently. Sitting room. There is a smart TV, board games and books including local maps and a house folder with lots of information on local places of interest, shops and good places to eat. We provide one complementary basket of logs, kindling and firelighters. Extra logs may be available to buy, or can be purchased from other local stores. Kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is open plan and well equipped with oven/grill/hob and table that comfortably seats five. There is 1 large and 1 small fridge/freezer, toaster, kettle and cafetiere. The kitchen has plenty of cutlery, plates, pots, frying pan, pizza stone, baking sheets, ovenproof and serving dishes. PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO DISHWASHER OR WASHING MACHINE, although I am often available to do laundry for those staying longer than 1 week if necessary. This is charged at £5 per load. The double bed mezzanine is accessed from this side. There are several single steps in the barn itself which are unsuitable for anyone with mobility issues. Hot water/heating. The combi boiler in the kitchen heats water on demand for washing up/showers. The heating is controlled by a digital thermostat on a smart schedule, maximum temp 21c during the day and 18c at night. This suits the majority of our guests as shown in many reviews, however if you prefer a warmer room, this is not the ideal place for you! We politely request that the heating internet bridge must not be disconnected by guests. Bathroom. The bathroom has shower over bath, sink and loo, with toiletries and towels provided. Courtyard area. You have sole use of the gated courtyard which has a BBQ (coals not provided) bench, table and chairs and hammock. It's a real suntrap in summer, and the perfect place for a morning coffee or evening drink, watching the bats and stargazing on clear nights. Pets are safe to be off the lead. The only time you may see us is when we need to access the bin store or shed. Parking. There is a parking space behind the barn which is fine for most cars and vans, or at a push 2 small cars (or car and small trailer). Extra guests camping in vans is not permitted. Pets - no extra charges here! We want you and your pets to feel at home during your stay. We are more than happy for you to have pets on sofas but please bring their favourite blanket to help keeps things fresher for future guests. Please note due to the steep ladder access to bedrooms, dogs are not permitted on the mezzanines, the sofa bed is a better option if your pooch likes to sleep with you. We are also happy for you to leave your pets unattended for short periods if this is something you do at home. We trust that you know your pet better than you do! Guest access Our property is up an unsigned private lane, which is rough in places and muddy in winter. We are off the main road between Monkton and Hundleton and easily located on Google maps as The Barn Square Island, SA71 5QR. There are a couple of houses on the left lower down, keep going up the lane, as it bends around to the left you will get to farm buildings after a further 200m. You will see the sign for parking on the wall of the barn, follow the arrow and park behind the barn on the hardstanding on the right. Walk back up the lane from the parking area and turn left to enter the courtyard through the wooden gate. The main door is second on the left, you will see the lockbox by the downpipe in the corner. Other things to note There is a washing line in our back garden (through the parking area) which you are more than welcome to use. There is a bucket and hose for rinsing wetsuits and swimming costumes. We are bike friendly and are happy for you to wash bikes using the hose in the courtyard. Bikes can also be locked in the shed, please inform us on arrival if you would like to use it. The farmer has cows in the shed and uses the lane daily so please be considerate and do not block gateways. Park in the designated space behind the barn, not in the lane. Extra guests in the barn or camping in vans is not permitted. There is parking for 2 small cars.
