At Mike's

Μike was a seaman, a world citizen, well-known to the whole island and beloved friend to many Ikarians. Thus, this house built by him, is open and warm to guests from allover the world. The lodge, located at 100m from the provincial road and 460m from the coast, is surrounded by big smooth rocks that point out the Ikarian nature at this part of the island. Wood and stone are the key archi elements, while traditional objects from local old times, makes the living in an authentic experience. The space The house is an old stone house ,builded in the beginning of the 20th century and from its beginning it was property of our family. It was fully renovated and new structure elements were added by Mike in 1995 ,thus its ceramic tiles roof and the wooden internal pine roof, adds a unique warm atmosphere but also cooler summer days. This cottage of 70 sq.m house is located at the nothern edge of Karkinagri village, where big rocks from ancient times create an extraterrestial environment.There is a parking seat right in front of the entrance of the house where a semi-roofed yard with two mulberry trees offer an all day seating shadow .The house has a spacious living-room with a comfortable sofabed that it turns to a double bed with anatomic mattress and a love chair that is extended to a single bed. In the main bedroom,there is a 1,60X2,00 double bed and another one single bed. The max.sleeping capacity can be of two couples with one kid each or of a family with up to four children, or of six closed friends . There is a fully equipped kitchen,while both outside and inside the house, there are dining tables ,with the respective seating to eat capacity. All windows and the main door of the house are screened to keep outside all insects.Behind the house there is a huge prickly pear tree,whose extremely nutritional fruits can be collected with caution. You will find a welcome gift on the table and clean bed sheets and towels for all the period of stay, and cold drinkable water, coffee sugar and tea for your venue. The tap water comes from a borehole and you can drink it, as most of the locals do.If not, you can buy bottled mineral water from the mini market that is located at 300m from the house.If you are kind enough to water the two trees during your stay, I will be very thankful. Have a nice stay, R Guest access The tranquille fishermen village of Karkinagri is located at the south-west coastline of the island at the distance of 77 km from the airport through paved road, of 79 km from Agios Kirikos harbour ,of 44 km from Evdilos harbour, of 18 km from Rahes , of 12 km from Lagkada and of 4,5 km from Trapalou village by car. Other things to note Important tips: 1. For fresh fish eaters, this is the place. At the two tavernas (Karakas and Perkas), on the beach and above the small harbour, you will find every day fresh fish to eat , chosen at the moment or pre-ordered that was caught locally by the local fishermen. You can alternatively wait for the boats to come back in the morning and buy to cook at home,if you are an expert. 2. The biggest fiesta of the island ( Ikaria is famous of its traditional fiestas) on the 15th of August, on the name day of our Holy Lady Mary is taking place at Lagkada that is 12,5 km drive from Karkinagri. More than 5.000 people attend the fiesta,that is organized on volunteer basis by the Karkinagrians. Don't miss it ... 3. On a windless day, hire a local boat and visit the sea around Faros at Mavri , where below the shadow of what used to be the last keyed lighthouse of Aegean Sea, you will be seduced by the most beautiful sea colours ever seen.
