DriftAway Glamping - safari tent or woodland yurt

Description

There's only the Safari Tent in the meadow and the Yurt nestled in to the woodland. So, if you book them both you can have the entire site to yourself! Click My Profile to see Woodland Yurt details. 2 adults, 2 children. The space Nigel and Liz run this small site because we want others to enjoy this beautiful piece of Somerset. The 2 tents are far enough away from the house that you don’t need to worry about us, but we are near enough if you need anything. To view details of both the yurt and the safari tent, please click on My Profile picture at the top of the page. There's space for a max. of 2 adults only and 2-3 small children in each plus acres of room if you want to pitch an extra tent for the kids to sleep in, using your own bedding, for a small extra charge, (please just ask us first). The Safari Tent is comfortably furnished with a double bed and 2 small singles (suitable for young children only). All towels, bedding, blankets and equipment you might need are supplied so just bring yourselves and your clothes! It may not be at the glamorous, luxury end of the market, but it's all here and its clean and comfortable - that's the way we like it and we hope you do to. We encourage visitors to cook over the outdoor fire pit or on the small wood fired stove. But we also provide a compact gas cooker too and there’s a small sink / washing up bowl in each tent. There's also a proper outdoor sink up at the shower house shed to make washing up a little easier. Lighting is from candles and battery / solar lamps as there’s no mains power. However, we have provided a power point along with a fridge in your own shower house shed, about 20m away and we do provide a cool box in the tent and ice packs. It's always a good idea to bring your own torch too. The shower house shed houses the off-grid shower and is dedicated to users of the Safari Tent only. It's no power shower, but it provides warm-to-hot showers. Our lovely loo cabins house a very clean chemical toilet for your own private use. Staying at DriftAway Camping is about relaxation, enjoyment and fun in a secluded, private setting. We like to encourage an appreciation of the natural beauty around you, whilst also having fun. The meadow and woods are a registered Wildlife Reserve and abound in a diverse range of marsh, heath and meadow plant life and trees. What could be better than sitting round a camp fire cooking your own food, enjoying good company and contemplating the stars…? Come and find out. Guest access Enter the driveway at Driftaway and we'll guide you past our home and round to park your car adjacent to the shower sheds and the loo cabins. It's then just a few meters walk across the meadow to either the Safari Tent or the Yurt. Other things to note Stuff you should know... Thank you for deciding to come and stay at Driftaway Camping. We hope your stay will be relaxing and enjoyable and you will appreciate it as much as our previous guests. In order to ensure that everyone has a good time, we do ask you to observe a number of points which we have set out below. Firstly… A refundable ‘Damage Deposit’ of £100 must be paid on arrival to Driftaway Camping, either in cash or by cheque, which will be returned on departure, provided nothing has been damaged (beyond normal wear and tear) or is missing and the tent and site is left clean and tidy. If something is broken or damaged, please let us know and we can replace it. We won’t charge for simple breakages though; it just means that we can replace things if they get broken. Arrival and departure times: Please arrive between 2:00pm and 7:00pm and advise us of your estimated arrival time. It would be helpful if you could then telephone half an hour before you think that you will arrive. If you are likely to be later than 7:00pm please let us know so we can try to arrange for someone to meet you and show you to your tent. We request that you depart by 11:00am to give us time to prepare before the next arrivals. Facilities: Two, clean and well maintained chemical loos (one for each tent) provide the toilet facilities on site as there are no mains drains. During COVID we will not be cleaning toilets or showers between change overs in order to minimise contact with guests. Therefore please keep your own shower, sink and toilet clean during your stay; all cleaning materials and anti-bacterial hand cleaners will be provided. There is a simple gas fired shower in the shower shed – it is low pressure and provides warm to hot water. It is definitely NOT a high pressure shower delivering gallons of hot water all day long! Guests are requested to sort all items into the correct recycling bins provided and to switch off electric lights and water taps when not needed. Fires: Outside barbecue equipment or camp fires must remain a minimum of 5m from the tent and must never be left unattended whilst alight. If you have the stove burning you MUST leave the tent door partly open to allow sufficient ventilation in order to avoid carbon monoxide build up. (There are carbon monoxide AND smoke alarms in the tents). No items must be left nearer than 40cm to the stoves; do not hang clothing or place combustible materials near or over the stove to dry. Guests must appoint a single person, not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, who will be responsible for the safe use of the fire/stove, and extinguishing them fully at any time before the site is vacated. Guests must not move the stove and only fires or stoves supplied by Driftaway Camping can be used. Please keep camp fires within the size of the fire pit. The stoves in the tents must only burn dry and seasoned wood. Do not attempt to burn damp or unseasoned wood. For the wood burning stoves: first basket of logs and kindling free of charge. Further generous baskets of logs and kindling £4 per basket. You must only burn the seasoned wood we supply in these stoves; please do not use this wood on the outside fires. You must not burn wood picked up from around the site on the indoor stoves. For your outdoor camp fires: initial basket of wood free of charge. Additional wood for burning on the camp fire can be provided at a charge of £4 per load. Candles, paraffin lamps and tea lights that are used in the tents must remain within the candle holders and containers when alight. Exposed candles must not be used inside or near to the tents. Dogs All dog poo MUST be cleared up. Dogs must not be allowed to roam freely unless under full supervision of the owner. Noisy or messy dogs will be asked to leave and no refund will be payable. Safety: If there is a fire, please GET EVERYONE OUT OF THE TENT and raise the alarm. Please keep away from the fire and assemble by the shower shed as there are gas canisters in each tent. There is a fire bucket and water butt at the edge of the meadow. Inside the tents: • No smoking in the tents or buildings; do not discard cigarette butts on the ground. • Please remove dirty shoes and boots before entering the tents. • Gas stoves – please ask if you run out of gas. • Wood burning stoves – only use the wood provided in the tent and do not use this wood on the outside fires. Ensure the damper/vents are open and keep tent door partly open when burning. • Water – if you run out please fill up the water containers from the tap located to the left of the outside sink. • Lighting – you have a single, solar powered light bulb and several battery powered torches; please ask if you need more batteries. • Additional fold out/camp beds are available; please do not remove them or any of the bedding and blankets from the tent. Common Sense: Camping in Britain can mean dramatic variance in weather in a short period of time. Whilst we supply certain facilities and equipment, it is still camping and you are responsible for your own well-being and comfort regarding appropriate clothing and footwear etc. In extreme weather conditions at the camp, such as exceptional cold or rain, the ground can be become saturated and muddy; that is just ‘outdoor life’ and we cannot be held responsible if such conditions prevail! Be aware the tents are cotton canvas and in prolonged and heavy rain the tents may leak a little, although to date we are not aware of any problems.
