Great family vacation base for a Downeast Maine Adventure. Two story, newly renovated, four season cabin with 1000 square feet of living space sits in a wooded cove off an easily-accessible rural paved road. Centrally located between the two units of Acadia National Park (Mount Desert Island and Schoodic Peninsula) and the beautiful, quiet lakes and mountains of the Donnell Pond Maine State Preserve. Although not on the water, there is access to our private Taunton Bay shore, 3.5 miles away. The Lodge: Living space - kitchen, living room, dining, full bath, and laundry room are on the main floor. The kitchen has all the amenities you will need. There is a small screen porch off the back of the house to enjoy the private woods without the bugs. Bedrooms are on the second floor consisting of one private bedroom with a queen bed and a second open bedroom (need to pass through this area to get to the main bedroom). The second bedroom has a double bed and a trundle pull out single (does not pop up - stays low to floor). There are privacy curtains to separate this bedroom area from walk-through to master bedroom. Please note that this sleeping area is cozy when the trundle is pulled out with only 1.5 feet between the double and trundle bed. Upon request, the trundle can be moved into the master bedroom which is very roomy. There is another single bed in a separate alcove, also with a privacy curtain. This is a full size single but due to sloping roof, this sleeping area is better for a small adult or child. If needed, it be be slid out a foot into hallway to accommodate a full size adult. Also upstairs is a 1/2 bathroom. Entrances to both units of Acadia National Park are about 30-35 minutes away from the lodge, located centrally between the two units. Bar Harbor is 45-50 minutes away. Just about any part of Acadia National Park (excluding outlying islands) can be reached in under 60 minutes. The closest unit of Donnell Pond Maine State Preserve is only 15 minutes away. Also located within a few miles is access to the Downeast Sunrise Trail, an 80 mile all access (foot, bike, ATV) trail that runs from Ellsworth to Machias. The cabin sits back about 100 yards from a rural road which does have some local residential traffic. Three sides of the house have views of the woods. From the front you can see a farmhouse across the street and another house about 100 yards away. You will have use of our Taunton Bay home shoreline recreation site with dedicated picnic area and firepit for guests and shared use of an adjacent 12x18' screenhouse. Kayaks and a canoe are available for free use, with the signing of a hold harmless agreement. This site is 3.5 miles from Little Lodge. I will interact and provide information at the level the guest desires. There will be plenty of area information in the lodge. The lodge is rurally located and sits back from road 100+ yards with only two other houses in view from the front of the lodge, a farmhouse across the road about 150 yards away and another house about 100 yards away. The other three sides of the house are wooded. A vehicle is a necessity, but once in Acadia National Park, there is a great free shuttle system Courtesy Request regarding Service Animals: Since we have family members with allergies who periodically stay at this place, we want to keep the place hypoallergenic. If you need to bring a service animal on your vacation, we ask that you not book our place out of respect for our family health concerns. Thank you. TV: there is a tv and dvd player as well as a supply of dvds; however, tv reception can sometimes be spotty, depending upon how well Spectrum service happens to be working on any given day. TV is only available in summer and fall. Wifi (through Spectrum) is available but can also be intermittent or spotty at times. Cell phone works best through WiFi calling. No reliable AT&T cell service on site, but Verizon works somewhat.
