Description
This property - PE1 is the first property of ‘Project Etere’ - an experimental, collaborative architectural project that attempts to synthesize and interlink the fields of property development, social impact, design, contemporary art, and economics. This artisanal studio apartment was carefully designed through the reconfiguration of an existing, disused building nestled within a beautiful traditional Balinese compound. The space This open-plan studio apartment offers calming and spacious atmosphere with lots of natural light and an abundance of fresh air from multiple directions. The property is furnished with bespoke, high-quality furniture, compact kitchenette and the living area extends into a wooden terrace overlooking the Balinese compound and temple in which our host and her family live. The property is well lit in nighttime and equipped with blinds for more privacy when needed. Guest access The property is accessed through a private staircase leading into the studio apartment terrace and main entrance door. Other things to note WHAT IS PROJECT ETERE? ‘Project Etere’ aims to formulate an alternative architectural development model that is informed by careful observation of a specific urban fabric and its relationship to the social and cultural context that exists within it. The delicate intervention within a locale comes hand in hand with international and cross-cultural exchange through the lens of contemporary art and design. The absence of a real urban plan on the island has created a growing urban problem of building without context consideration, resulting in countless incomplete or disused buildings that dot the Balinese landscape. These “ghost” buildings destined to become rental units, house extensions and independent businesses are often close to 50-70% and remain inactive for months, or even years as a result of insufficient funding, poor budget management, or due to local realities and other expenses related to religious activities, which are generally at the highest priority in Balinese culture. Within this architectural reality, ‘Project Etere’ acts as a counterweight to this phenomenon by proposing a new model of property development in both the architectural and social fields. The ongoing process of mapping and scouting for potential project locations done by ‘Project Etere’, concluded that these “dormant” structures represent a promising opportunity for the launch of a new type of architectural development paradigm on the island.
