Local shop and petrol. Excellent public transport and taxi company very close by for those wishing to travel further afield and fell walk access within 30m. The space Allan Bank is a beautiful traditional Lakeland slate cottage, believed to have been built in around 1840 for the manager of the local hydro- electric station at White Cross Bay. The house has been sympathetically renovated to retain a significant number of original features whilst providing all of the modern comforts required for a relaxing break. The house is equally suitable for adults who want a comfortable home at the end of a day admiring the views, or for families who come back with hiking boots and wet clothes. The excellent location offers the opportunity to explore by car, bus or on foot. For those choosing to travel by car or bus, Windermere, Ambleside and the rest of the Lakes are easily accessed from Allan Bank. There is a bus stop outside the house and access to the fells is less than 30 metres from the back door. Allan Bank is an ideal and popular location for those attending weddings or events locally with many of the licensed wedding hotels being within walking distance or a short cab ride. It is only a mile from the very popular 'Beatrix Potter' attraction. It is also close to the start of a number of events such as the Great North Swim. The private on site parking is a real bonus in this area. The three double bedrooms (King and two Doubles) and two bathrooms offer comfortable accommodation for 6 adults. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge (bedding on request at booking) if required. This room is bright yet cosy and equally well suited to relaxing with a book, for family/ group fun with a board game or in front of the large screen Sony tv with movies, BT Sports or using the games console. The kitchen diner, with its mix of Victorian porcelain tile and Lakeland slate floors offers everything you might need. The newly fitted kitchen with oak worktops, range oven, integrated fridge, freezer, wine cooler and dishwasher has all you might need during your stay. The large dining table accommodates up to 8 and completes the setting for a comfortable social meal for groups and families. Guest access Guests will have access to all rooms except the basement. There are two double beds and a king size, and one double sofa bed (in the sitting room) a baby travel cot can be arranged. Upstairs are two shower rooms; there is toilet and washbasin conveniently located off the porch where all the outdoor clothes are kept. The central heating is very good. Of course there is a washer and a dryer, a fridge and freezer and a range oven; there is also a rice cooker. The garden has been fenced off for visiting family dogs, but sheep are kept in a field just a few meters away, so leads are necessary when leaving the back door or garden gate. Other things to note Water skiing, water-boarding, sailing is available just a short distance, towards Ambleside, and Lake cruises are a feature at Bowness - on - Windermere. The house is at the foot of the Kirkston Pass, one of the highest passes in the Lake District that connects with Ullswater.
