Description

In the heart of ancient Dorset woodland, the Cabin enjoys forest views from every room, a log burning stove, al fresco terrace dining, outdoor showering, sauna, hammock and private wildlife garden. 40 minutes away from the World Heritage Jurassic coast, a perfect destination for nature lovers, walkers and cyclists, this countryside hideaway is perfect for those in need of a digital detox. Unfortunately, it isn’t suitable for children under 5 or large/active dogs (see House Rules). The space The Cabin is a recently renovated Scandinavian-style chalet in the heart of woodland, close to historic Milton Abbas, a small thriving village with a unique history. On the outskirts of the village, you will find Milton Abbey and its beautiful grounds and plenty of forest walks from here. The property is accessed via a one-mile track through the woods which can be uneven particularly after bad weather. We don’t recommend driving vehicles with lowered suspension. This track is flanked by towering Douglas Firs, where you will often see a deer or a swooping bird of prey. The track passes deep into the forest, after which you will arrive at The Cabin nestled between two ancient giant Redwoods. The chalet sits in a clearing in the woods, shared also by The Lodge- the site of a former folly. In early Spring, the woods are carpeted in wild garlic and primroses which later give way to extensive bluebells. In Autumn, the trees are a muted tapestry of coppers and yellows contrasted by patches of evergreen firs. The woodland can be enjoyed all year round; dine al fresco on the purpose-built deck and use the binoculars to spot wildlife hiding in your private garden or lie in the hammock listening to the birds before taking a steaming hot or bracingly cold outdoor shower with only the trees to see you! Here you won't find any distractions but instead, curl up in a fleece blanket in front of the wood burner with a good book or challenge someone to a game of chess! There is a small selection of DVDs, CD’s, books and games for you to enjoy. IMPORTANT: The Cabin is surrounded by 200 acres of unfenced privately owned forest and is within close proximity to our other property - The Lodge. Each property maintains a good level of privacy and both have their own parking and garden. Cabin Guests do not have access to The Lodge (although it is available to rent by prior arrangement) or any of the surrounding woodland . There are however, no fenced boundaries hence this property is unsuitable for young children (aged 6 months-5 years) or those prone to straying. Dogs must be kept on a lead outside the house. Hallway Enter through the front door into the hallway where you will find space to hang your coats and kick off your shoes. Open plan kitchen/lounge Spacious living area that also provides a seated dining area and double doors out to the decking. Sink into the large leather sofa covered in sheepskins and comfy cushions and listen to the chime of the cuckoo clock. A large wood burning log stove ensures a cosy stay even on the coldest day. Kitchen Well-equipped brand-new modern kitchen, stone worktops, induction hob, electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. Ground coffee beans and cafetière are provided for that all important fresh cup of morning coffee. Bathroom with Sauna The family bathroom includes an over bath shower, bath and sink. But ultimately, it's all about the sauna! Get hot and detox! Fresh towels are provided. Bedroom 1 The spacious master bedroom on the first floor has amazing views of the woodland, a vaulted ceiling and Scandinavian style wood cladding. Sink into the sumptuous queen-sized bed which is adorned with a velvet bedspread, faux fur throw and plump cushions. Wake only to the sound of birdsong and enjoy breakfast in bed on the antique tray table. Bedroom 2 On the ground floor, a light bedroom, decorated with thoughts of fairy tales, two twin size beds and comfy armchairs. Terrace and garden Accessed from the lounge, double doors open out directly onto the raised decking fronted by a rope balustrade. This makes the property unsuitable for young children or small/young dogs who may slip or fall beneath the rope. Equipped with table and chairs and a bespoke outdoor shower - perfect for al fresco dining and showering! Take the lanterns and a fleece blanket and enjoy an evening glass of wine on the terrace as the sun goes down and the stars appear in an uncontaminated sky. Descend from the decking, down steps into the developing wildlife garden delineated by wooden post fencing and sit on the benches carved from Delcombe trees or lie in the hammock and listen to the sound of nature. Other things to note Enough kindling will be supplied during winter for at least 2 fires in the woodburner, should you require more this is available to buy from the local farm shop. We are happy to supply you with local produce for breakfast which will include sausages, bacon, eggs, bread, butter and orange juice. Payment to be made at checkin - £10 p/p per day please do let me know if you'd like to order. Please note the entrance track is a mile long and uneven as it meanders through woodland.
