There is a path to your own secluded and Private Water-front spot and Fire Pit. Please use care and caution when you build a fire, of course. Later summer months there is usually a burn-ban. Will keep you notified when there is. If you have paddle boards or kayaks you can access the River here... that is if you want to pack them down that ^path. It’s do-able if you decide you’re up to it. Or use the Boat Access -across from Chevron Gas Station -up River. *Remember the River is swift flowing & you’ll want your life vest. OTHER OPTIONS: 1: Look up ‘Big Elk Creek’. It’s on the left side of the road driving East towards WYO, a few miles. 2: PALISADES DAM (LAKE): Access the Lake via Calamity Boat Dock. Follow signs you’ll see below the dam on the right side of road. BOTH- PERFECT places to play in the water with or without your water toys. •Don’t have the boat or water toys? We will be available to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable! We can always be reached by cell phone and are happy to help if we can. NOTE: There is a General Store in Swan Valley. There are two gas stations in Swan Valley and a smaller one across the street by us in Irwin, that carries some basics. Don't count on them to have what you need-when you need it. If you're looking for the most popular spots in town, it's 1. Ice Cream Inside the Exxon Gas Station in Swan Valley: Rainey Creek Country Store Famous for their Square Ice Cream Cones. There's usually ALWAYS a line at the Exxon gas station. AND 2. The ICE CREAM Sundae Shack on the opposite side of the street *notice the big yellow 'Ice Cream' signs. It is kitty-corner, from the Exxon Gas Station in Swan Valley. There is usually no waiting line at the little Ice Cream Sundae Shack or a very short one if there is a line. They're only open during the summer months. *Both places are great. **The Farr's ice cream is the same. The only difference is, the ice cream scoop is square at the EXXON Gas Station. **IMHO, I think you get more ice cream at the yellow ICE CREAM Shack across the street. (Our Favorite Ice Cream is Tillamook Ice Cream that you get in a container at the grocery store freezer isle) You’ll have no shortage of spectacular sites while fishing along the South Fork of the Snake River. In addition to the mountains, towering canyon walls, broad plains and cottonwood forests lining the banks, you’ll be treated to a rich diversity of wildlife. Bald eagles and osprey nest nearby. Whooping cranes, geese, duck, moose, deer and even bear are often seen around the river. Oh, and did I mention our resident hummingbirds all summer long? Don't you just get a kick out of how feisty they are? ;) This is a great place to spend your summer vacation hiking, biking, or fishing at Palisades Res or floating the South Fork for the large cutthroat and brown trout, kokanee and mackinaw. The South Fork begins as it flows out of 20 mile long Palisades Reservoir through Swan Valley. A 64-mile stretch of legendary tail-water fly-fishing. The South Fork is also a beautiful river for flat water rafting, canoeing and kayaking. *If you float the South Fork in a canoe you must know what you are doing, as it is big water and its flat-water appearance can fool you to its dangers. The first 12 miles downstream from Palisades Dam is the most accessible stretch of the South Fork. Enjoying the scenery of nearby mountains grace the landscape with their untamed beauty. The South Fork of the Snake River is well-known as one of the best wild trout fisheries in the U.S., and for good reason. Wild rainbow, brown and (most notably) cutthroat trout thrive along this waterway, fulfilling any angler’s fantasy of a river where you can fish from gravel bars or drift boats and pull in over 20 trout in a day (with plenty sizing in over 20 inches long) all while enjoying the spectacular scenery that Southeastern Idaho is famed for. While the best dry fly season on the South Fork of the Snake River is from July to August (early July is often marked by some incredible hatches). September temperatures cool and river flows drop in the fall, leaving the river accessible to wading out into it. The reduced number of anglers means that it’s possible to spend many solitary hours wading the river by foot. October can have excellent fishing, although the weather may be unpredictable. Many visitors head home and locals put away their fishing rods for 'Hunting Season', beginning mid September. You are pretty much on your own traveling anyplace around here; No regular bus service available. You can rent a vehicle from the airports in Jackson Hole, WY and Idaho Falls, Idaho. For your fishing shuttle needs: Julie's Shuttle Service @ (twoZERO8) four83-two9zero3 Not sure if she does area tours but it's worth asking. Let us know if you need other recommendations. IMPORTANT NOTICE IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN: The yard is not fenced. Please be aware the front of the house faces the highway and the swift moving Snake River current is on the back side. For your children's safety, we can't stress enough that your supervision will be of utmost importance. CHECKOUT: Checkout is by 10am. Please be respectful of our time and the guests coming after you and leave the house with your possessions in hand no later than 10am. Thank you for understanding.
