Description

Escape to a warm, light-filled 70 m² artist’s studio with garden & parking, just 1 mile from Snape Maltings and 5 miles from Aldeburgh. A creative retreat behind a Tudor home, filled with recycled art and character. Perfect base for the Aldeburgh Documentary Festival, Snape Jazz, The Art Station and Social Bar at Saxmundham and autumn coastal walks. Sleeps 4, with fast Wi-Fi, cotton bedding & full kitchen. Ideal for couples, friends or small families — dogs welcome by arrangement. The space You’ll have your own private mown garden area with seating, though the studio sits within my larger garden, so you may see my house and neighbours (more visible in winter). Access is via my cottage driveway. Inside, there’s one open-plan studio with a bedroom area plus an additional separate bedroom — plenty of space for up to four guests. This is a lively Suffolk village, not an isolated retreat. Neighbours work in farming and other professions, children play outside, and you may hear chickens or the occasional celebration — but evenings are generally peaceful, and nights are quiet. I welcome one well-behaved dog (please bring rugs if they’re sofa/bed dogs). The garden isn’t fully secure and backs onto farmland with sheep and chickens, so pets must be supervised. The space is always improving, and your feedback helps me make it better. The wider garden is more of a wild, rural landscape — with brambles, blackthorn, an open pond, and even a tempting but unsafe old treehouse — so it’s not ideal for unsupervised young children. Still, your private enclosure offers a safe, cosy spot for dining and relaxing outdoors. Expect true countryside life: owls, hedgehogs, mice rustling, early birdsong, deer, foxes, and a horse or two nearby. It’s insulated and comfortable, but not soundproof — you’ll hear the rhythms of village and wildlife around you. Many guests find it part of the charm, and the stargazing here is superb. Please note: the studio is not suitable for hosting outside guests. Guest access You’ll have a private garden area just for you, but the studio sits within my larger acre plot. I look after the surrounding gardens and may need occasional access for light maintenance (usually Wednesdays). I’ll always be discreet and do my best to avoid disturbing you — unless there’s a real need, like watering in a drought or mowing if the grass gets too long. Other things to note I share the property with a big, friendly Vizla who’s safely fenced in my own garden. He may give a hearty bark to welcome you — it’s just his way of saying hello (a typical hound thing!) — and then he soon settles down. You’ll only meet him if you’d like to. Parking is available right by the studio. There’s space for up to two cars; if both are large estates it just takes a little extra manoeuvring, but nothing tricky.
