Palazzo Bernardini
Description
Palazzo Bernardini is located in the heart of the historic center of Lecce, behind the Duomo, immersed in the beauty of baroque Lecce. This historic building, originally from the Renaissance, was renovated in 1859, presenting a neoclassical façade. The Palazzo is the result of the merger of three buildings, with the oldest dating back to the Renaissance period. Inside, visitors can admire part of the 17th-century Bernardini Art Gallery and a library with ancient texts. In the dining room, recent restorations have brought to light a 15th-century fresco and various Renaissance architectural elements. The vaults of the palace are star-shaped or sail-shaped, typical of the ancient palaces of the south. The atrium of the building retains the original floor of ancient Lecce stone slabs and houses a fifteenth-century niche with a rusticated decoration, where you can park your car. The entire building is equipped with Wi-Fi, and there are excellent artisan restaurants nearby, and more. The space The space on the main floor is an authentic historical masterpiece, enriched by a fifteenth-century niche discovered during recent restorations. This niche is adorned with contemporary frescoes depicting Saint Anne, the Madonna and Child, Saint Onofrio and Saint Anthony. Next to it is a part of a 15th-century window with a rusticated motif and a safe built into the wall with a revolving stone door. The ceiling of the living room is beautifully decorated with eighteenth-century frescoes, while the cornices of the various rooms, made of papier-mâché, are the backdrop to the sumptuous antique furnishings. The prestigious collection of paintings from the seventeenth-century Neapolitan school, from the Pinacoteca del Palazzo Marchesale di Arnesano, further enriches the environment. In the dining room, a collection of Ginori Doccia porcelain and antique glassware adds a touch of elegance. On the same floor, an ancient library with empire furniture houses a collection of ancient engravings, completing the atmosphere of refined historicity of the noble floor.
